shareVery similar in initial setup, yes. It's not a better movie, but I think the scope eventually broadens beyond what they give away in the trailer, and makes it more than just a lesser retread of Huston's movie. Shares a lot in common with Moby Dick too.

Reminded me of Wages of Fear as well, washed-up gritty characters risking it all for a big pay-off, a movie full of tension and sweat and devoid of all glamour.
I liked it a lot.
Black Sea could have been akin to The Treasure of the Sierra Madre on some level, but it fails to remotely approach that classic. Indeed, the two films do not belong in the same universe in terms of quality.
The greatest difference is the caliber of the writing and the attention paid to character.
