The Nazi sub SPOILERS

I would really have liked to see more of the Nazi Sub, learn more about what happened to them and the hinted cannibalism. Maybe finding a captains log and having flashbacks or something.

Maybe some other interesting stuff could be found.

I also thought one of them would take a gun...?

Enjoyed the film, just wanted more of the Nazi sub!

Yeah, me too...even the loading of the gold from it seemed to be an afterthought. "Why is it so heavy?" "Oh, it's got the gold." Well, duh!

I kind of missed the deal with the cannibalism. Were they implying that they sunk or whatever happened, but were stuck down there long enough to run out of food, so they chained up some of their own to be a "larder" of meat? I would have figured that they would run out of air or energy or something way before they would resort to some kind of organized cannibalism. That was a bit too much, and seemed to me to be bizarre and gratuitously grisly without having any further justifying development.

there was a skeleton/corpse that was in chains, and a comment made which i can't remember. So i kind of thought of cannibalism, but its probably just as easy to argue it was something else.

Would have been interesting to explore it a bit more.

MarwoodWalks, I think the comment was "cannibalism", but it wasn't something that I accepted, like, "Oh yeah, of course.' Instead, it didn't quite compute.

I'm assuming they said cannibalism because they got hungry and ate the people they chose to eat or who died first (had to eat it quick after death)..haha. I'm sure they didn't last that long down there but probably more like an Alive type thing.
Personally, I didn't need the story to go into depth with the Nazi sub. For the most part, I really liked the film. However, I think it was a slight bit flat. I'd have liked some more inter character drama with some of the men having issues from the past or working together. A bit more of a plot twist if you will.
For the most part, it was a clever script and film with a lot to offer.

Martina-Helene, but the skeletons were chained up, so one might think "brig" or "prisoners" or "enemies captured"; somehow "cannibailism", which I think one of them said, wouldn't have been the first thing that popped into my mind.

I thought there would be more time spent with the Nazi sub, but I could see more exposition of the characters, like you were saying. I'm not complaining about the movie, though, I really liked it.

I am going to check out your IMDB page!

Martina-Helene, I checked out your IMDB page and watched your reel. Very beautiful and very funny! I loved the way you said "hallway"! Honestly, that kind of inflection shows talent. Oh, and your great line about the illusion of love. You're got an intersting combination of being both vulnerable and sassy!

Why thank you Thomas! What a compliment! 

Spot on, Martina_Helene - cannibalism was never a problem on real submarines as any survivors would usually run out of air long before they would probably even consider eating each other.

For me, the characters were a bit too stereotypical, but I did enjoy the film. It was not overwhelming, but it wasn't terribly bad either. What I did like though was how Jude Law's character became more and more obsessed with the gold without himself noticing it.

I live in CT and I've never even heard of The Hartford Flick Fest. I may have to check that out.

I didn't think the characters were stereotypical. In fact, I've never seen better depiction of Russians in any Western movie before which I found refreshing. There were none of the usual cheap shots. The Russian characters were highly competent mariners who would not have had any issues with the crew had not that psycho Frazier killed one of their men for no good reason. And then there was that American psycho as well. You will rarely if ever see Russians depicted so neutrally in a Western movie.

The Russian guy with the watches was ok but the rest of the Russians were just horrible to that boy.

I agree, not because it would add a lot to the story, but purely for my personal pleasure.
The idea of wandering around such a historical treasure trove, a time capsule, would blow my mind.
They could have used it more as an omen for what was about to happen.
Not the cannibalism, that was silly, but imagine if in that sub we could see traces of fighting, how the crew had gone mad and then slowly suffocated.
When things then go wrong in the russian sub you probably think back to the skeletons...

There would not have been time to eat each other what a serious reality goof by the producers! Once the batteries ran out so would the remaining oxygen and they would either been asphyxiated or choked to death on poisonous chlorine gas fumes if the batteries contacted any sea water.
