WHY still with the wigs in court??

Doesn't it occur to anyone by now that they look ridiculous ? ?

Why aren't barristers/lawyers granted a bit of dignity over there ? ?

Well, the lawyers I know love the tradition of the robes and wigs worn in court. So for them it's a symbol that they've made it.

I understand that it's a tradition, but it looks a bit silly on the women. No, not because they're women, but because their actual long hair is sticking out from under the wigs.

I do have a question: in all but one court scene, all the lawyers (or whatever they're called in the UK) and the judge are wearing their wigs. But in just one court scene, none of them are wearing their wigs. Why? Is it like casual Friday or something? No explanation is given.
