The move to NYC hasn't helped, nor has the death of Abby (Season 6, 3 Episodes in)

The real problem is the show has been stuck in the same mode for the past few years. Despite the new locales where they're shooting (including some near places I used to work) it has a dead feel.

Mickey's like some supernatural creature haunting Ray's life. Daryll, whether a producer or a limo driver is always in above his head, and Bunchy hasn't matured at all. The best character is Terry, but here he is in a carbon copy of his LA gym, and going towards another health crisis.

I don't even want to talk about the kids. They used to help show Ray's softer side, but now that they're growing up they don't seem to serve a purpose.

This show was pretty original and very exciting when it started out, and I had hope a new direction would re-vitalize the franchise. So far, I'm not feeling it at all. I think I'm still watching just to see how it ends, and sort of hoping it ends this year.

There were rumors floating around last year that the fifth season was going to be the end, but Showtime decided to renew for some odd reason. They really should've went with their original decision. Instead, we got this mess.

Yeah, it's just a rehash of Ray doing his shtick in a different location. Mickey should've been dead tenfold. Bunch is being the dolt he has always been. Daryll is doing his producer thing but has absolutely no idea on how to be one. Bridge is still with cancer boy. Connah is completely out of the scene for the most part.

As for Abby, I'm kinda glad she kicked the bucket. She annoyed the crap out of me last season. All Abby did was whine and make Ray into a crybaby.

So far, Terry and Lena are keeping me intrigued. I won't get into spoilers in case you haven't seen the 4th and 5th episodes yet.

I do hope this is the last season myself. I hate seeing wonderful shows get dragged through the mud and then go out with a whimper. Looks like Ray Donovan may have the same fate.

I was actually still on board until they killed off Abby..It seems she was the only thing standing between Ray and total darkness. I wish they had figured out some other way to stir things up

Last season seem confined to too much total bleakness.

I'm just getting caught up this season and, personally, I'm back on board.
It seems just as good to me as it's earlier seasons.
It's back to never knowing what's going to happen next and poor Ray, back in the game, yet still able to win our sympathy as he drags himself through one shenanigan after another..
