Dimitri's accent....

Where is it?

A hardcore Russian gangster but he's speaking like he did in Walk Hard.

An episode or two ago, He said he grew up (or spent several years) somewhere on the East Coast. I forget which state exactly. Pennsylvania, Rhode Island somewhere like that. I just remember it's not NY which is where the actor is from and I thought he was say because the actor can't carry the accent for sh.|t.

But, yeah, Ray Donovan's casting leaves a lot to be desired all the way around.

Too many shows do this today - the Russian gangster somehow grew up in, or was at least educated, in the west BUT retains absolute loyalty to Mother Russia!

All I take that as is a cheap cop out that the actor couldn't get a Russian accent down so they make up that BS. The same way they did with Brad Pitt in Snatch, except there it worked perfectly.

I completely agree. There are any number of well known character actors they could have used to play Dmitri who have or could fake a Russian or at the very least an Eastern European accent. Like everyone's favorite Russian bad guys Rade Serbedzija or Olek Krupa. Instead they get a Native New Yorker who sounds like a native New Yorker.

And don't get me started on Sonya's South African accent.

Like I said, someone in the Ray Donovan casting department is hiring their friends. Good actors but not necessarily the right people for the roles.
