The Cat was a FEMALE! not male as presented!
Maybe this is a meaning less thread, but i am a pet lover and the cat is presented as a male cat but IMO is clearly a FEMALE CAT, so... any comments?

shareWeird how I forgot that part, Pig is indeed female according to the book. I don't remember how she was presented in the movie. Did they refer to her as a "he"?

Scientific fact: all calico cats are female.
share^ This.
shareAll calico cats have two X chromosomes. You can have an XXY male. He would be sterile.
shareThere are male calicos. They are just rare and always sterile. It was possible for Pig to be male.
Also, I've known many people that refer to their cats using the wrong gender pronouns. Usually it's because they either got the cat as a young kitten or, if they got it as an adult it was neutered. They either assume the cat is female because cats are difficult to sex (compared to humans and dogs, at least) or the cat simply looks very feminine or very masculine to them. They get used to thinking of the cat as male or female, despite what she or he really is, name him/her accordingly, and even after finding out the truth just can't make the mental switch.
Right now I know of 2 such cats. One is a neighborhood wanderer. She has owners that love her very much and take care of her, but she loves to be outside and sneaks out every chance she gets. They got her as a kitten and the family's young children decreed that she just "looks like a boy" and couldn't be persuaded otherwise. They named her Toby, and since now the whole neighborhood knows her, half refer to her as a female (which is technically correct), and half refer to her as male, either because her name is a traditionally male name or they just take their cues from the owners.
The other is my grandma's cat. She got her from the pound and initially named her Marjorie or something like that. The thing is, Marjorie looked a lot like the cat my grandma had when I was a kid. That cat was a boy named Petey. My grandma kept falling back in to old habits and kept calling Marjorie Petey and using male pronouns. It didn't take long for the cat to stop responding to Marjorie and respond to Petey. So, she's female, and everyone in the family knows it, but her name is Petey and most of use refer to her using male pronouns.
Really, the cat doesn't care if you use male or female pronouns. It's possible Pig is male, but it's also possible that for whatever reason, Tip thinks of Pig as male despite being female.
All true, except that in the book, Pig is female.
shareAniMartin funny story. :-)
shareWell not all, but still interesting to learn, thank you!
