I'm watching the Kenneth More version on Acorn and was surprised to find it set in the 1920s with no sign of Lady Felicia, Sid or Mrs M. As I haven't read the Chesterton books, was wondering which series is closer to the original stories?
I have never seen the Kenneth Moore series but the 2013 version is absolutely nothing like the books. Chesterton's first Father Brown story came out in 1910 and this is when the story is set.
Also, the plots of the stories have been changed completely and quite obviously though the new version is set in the 50's everybody, especially the Father, behaves like someone from the 21st century. No Lady Felicia, Sid or Mrs. M. either.

If you take the 2013 version on its on terms and don't expect a faithful adaptation and can look beyond the obviously too modern views everyone has, it is actually quite a fun show. I'm looking forward to the next season.
