I doubt she is devout, she is a busybody who likes to stick her nose into other people's affairs. She is a nice and charming busybody though, so I'll forgive her.

shareI think it's quite a hoot and pretty close to a lot of marriages in that day. Aristocracy married and as long as the wife gives him an heir and a spare, the husband went off to London and usually stayed at his club. The wife would come up for the "season" and what she or he does and it doesn't cause a scandal, nobody is hurt. Just think of Lady Felicia's confessions, it's a wonder that Father Brown doesn't blush every time he speaks to her.
