Mallory for panto?

I love this programme. I know its daytime, I know its light, but come on Jack Dean. He was superb in DCI Banks so why play it SO dumb? Bumbling copper or direction by a panto alumnus. Blimey.

Exactly! I've only recently discovered this series and Mallory is the only thing about it that I don't like. Comedic effect can't explain or excuse it -- the character is just way too much of a buffoon to work.

Mallory's indignant buffoonery is definitely getting tedious. I preferred Valentine and Sullivan, who were both more adult in handling their annoyance at Father Brown's interference.

I came here to make a thread about Mallory. I mean over-acting master class at work! I know it's daytime, but can he act at all?

I keep expecting the audience to shout "NO, IT ISN'T" and for him to reply "YES IT IS" and then hitting Widow Twankey with a rubber mallet...

I feel like when he's on-screen he needs classic sound effects such as:

bad-dum-tiss

and

wah-wah-waahh!as he looks into the camera and shakes his head.

As I said on another thread, he can act, in some of the calmer scenes he seems fine. It's just really stupid writing and possibly bad directing.

You are absolutely right. This clown is ridiculous in this part, where to start? First off Detectives in those days were extremely smart and tidy, never to be seen with a tie half way round their ears. Secondly in the entire series he has never got it right, Father Brown gets it right every time yet this fool accuses him of interfering? He jumps up and arrests anyone who happens to be in the room, the only certain thing is whoever he arrests is bound to be innocent, the complete lack of evidence to back up his arrests doesn't seem to faze him in the slightest. In reality a complaint would be made to the chief constable and he would be diverted to counting traffic cones. A blot on the series.
