Which year?

Which year is the current season set? I know it's the early 50's but when? They haven't mentioned a King or Queen so it's hard to place the year.

set in the 50's.

I must have missed the reference to the Queens speech but it was on radio before TV. It must be after 1954 then.

In 'The Theatre of the Invisible' one of the characters mentions going to see Rita Hayworth in 'Salome', a 1953 release though I have an idea an earlier episode in the same series showed a postmark for 1952.
Thus the queen's speech could only be on radio.

1952-53. In 'The Penitent Man' Flambeau was supposed to have murdered Hardwick in August 1953. It possibly jumps around between those two years as 'Poirot' did between 1935 and 1938.

Not sure which episode I was watching (I have them on Catch-up) but it might have been the Flambeau one and I notice a delivered letter had a George VI stamp on. Of course they may have been in use after he died.

Yes as children of the Fifties and Sixties we tried to collect every "old" penny we could find especially Victorian ones.

In S5E14, the Dr admits to desertion in June of 1944. Later, Father Brown mentions that the Dr has been on the run for "the better part of a decade" making it either 1953 or 54. Hopes this helps.
