So how are you enjoying Season 4 thus far?

Of the Mindy Project.

I like it, maybe not as much as season 2 (which I think is the show's best season), but more than most shows. I'm not particularly enamored of Jody and wish he wouldn't be in so many episodes. And, of course, it stunk when Danny wasn't there, but we know the reason. But I've really liked the addition of Mindy's parents. I still really like Annette. I enjoyed Eliza Coupe's appearance, and I see she's going to be back, so that will be cool. I'm looking forward to its return.

I wish I could find seasons 3 and 4. I currently live in New Zealand where everything is uncertain (could be killed in an earthquake at any time). I've watched the first two seasons and become a big fan of Mindy Kaling. Will I move back to Massachusetts for more? Who knows.

reply

Oh, dear. Prayers for your safety. Can't you stream them on a streaming service? I generally buy DVDs of series I like, but since TMP is still streaming on Hulu, I watch it there. Season 3 is the least successful of the show. Season 4 is dark--and brilliant.

reply

They need to lower down the focus on all Mindy's men because it is too much challenging and will cause the mess on everything.

I enjoyed the first half of the season. Sure it was a bit of a mess due to other filming and stuff but still ultimately as enjoyable on Hulu as it was over the air. Second half of the season is just bad. I know the show has been a lot of relationship drama, but now I'm just kind of sick of Mindy and her antics. I only made it half way through this weeks episode. I thought we were moving towards a new chapter with the show and a somewhat maturing Mindy but now it's reverted back to day 1... and I'm not really interested in watching more of that.

Yes. I have watched it from day one, but this is not a show I recognize—or enjoy—anymore. Bizarrely, Kaling has ruined it.

reply

I agree! What a disappointment.
I don't like what they've done to the character. The drawn out mess with Danny. The fact that she NEVER learns anything from her mistakes. And the writing is just terrible now. Not funny at all. I used to love this show, since it's been back from haiatus it's been terrible, before it was going down hill but as you said now I really don't recognize the show anymore.

Last episode was so much better without her whiny a$$ boyfriend.

reply

Definitely the mood was normal again, but the writing wasn't funny. The meanness is still present--and most disturbing is Mindy's meanness toward herself. This really bothers me.

Guess I'm an armchair showrunner, but I do wish that, since Mindy has been burned so badly by a guy who always was psycho (apparently), the character not relapse into the kinds of promiscuity that will no longer be funny.

This show is genius at finding non sequiturs, ad hominems, and self-deprecation that is funny, not mean. I hope it returns to less cruel humor.

reply

You say psycho, I agree. What took them so long to understand he dragged the series down.

reply

His whiny boyfriend may return on the series finale and no longer be whiny by then. They should bring back all the others since this show's first episode into the series finale by then also.

My feeling is that once Danny starting missing episodes the show's quality started to slide, with Colette especially being one of the show's worst regulars ever. But I went weird time personally (beginning of depression? I don't know) and have fallen behind on a lot of shows because I don't want to watch them while in an off state of mind, so that may be affect my enjoyment of them
