Jody is a tall, Southern Danny

They've basically reset the show by starting a new romance with the exact same story and character--just different actor.

I'm not complaining though. GD and MK has great chemistry and I enjoy their scenes together. This season is really working for me, albeit I do miss Danny.

Truth be told, I had to see you one more time, even if it was from a distance.

You mean he's a tall, southern Danny? :)

I agree. I like their chemistry, but honestly I still can't get over their first scene together on the subway. He was such a jerk to Mindy.

reply

Ahaha. Yes, I meant Danny. Danny can be a complete jerk to her too, especially in the first few seasons.

What I've never understood is why Danny and Jody fall for Mindy. I love Mindy but she is the complete opposite of their type and they always act like she drives them crazy. Then, all of a sudden, they love her. How do they get from point A to point M?

reply

That's a good point! I always saw it from Mindy's perspective and wondered how she could fall for all these jerks. But from their perspective as well, both Jody and Danny seem to be pretty conservative and religious while she is more liberal. She is certainly not the Italian housewife "Ma" that Danny seems to want.

reply

It made sense that Danny would fall for Mindy because he was such a needy introvert. She was the woman who was around and who was his friend without expecting a lot from him in return, but just sort of gently pushing him toward normalcy, so he fell for her. I don't see that about Jody. I mean, yes, he had the heartbreak of his failed relationship with Mary Anne, but there's no reason to believe he couldn't find someone else. A lot of women like men like him, even though I wouldn't.

I totally agree! I really like Mindy and Jody now. I think their chemistry is great. I too can't get over the subway breastfeeding incident though. I wish he would apologize to her for that. Totally not on board with Mindy/Danny. Danny is an abusive jerk wad.

reply

I'm not seeing the chemistry between those two. I don't buy it at all, and I think it's kind of an insult to try and redo the Danny/Mindy relationship with Jody. If Mindy is not going to go back with Danny then I would like to see her as a single mother for a while.

Exactly MacsDuster, I don't see the chemistry either, I just see a forced attempt to get people to like Jody and like the idea of him and Mindy. If they are not going to have Mindy and Danny together what makes them think we want to see the poor man's Danny with Mindy. Everybody is talking about how much of a jerk Danny has always been, but so has Jody, so what's the difference. I'm starting to lose interest in this show, if they go the route and hook her up with Jody, then I'm done.

reply

Garrett Dillahunt is hardly a poor man's Chris Messina. Both are damn fine men. I'm just surprised that they are going back to the well. I also wish they hadn't made him Southern but I'll take GH anyway I can get him.

reply

I was talking about personality wise. Jody is a repeat of season 1 & 2 Danny, by being an antagonist toward Mindy to eventually becoming attracted to her.

reply

Obviously it is a matter of taste and opinion, but in my book he sure is a poor man's Danny. I don't find him attractive at all. Danny was uptight but you could see the smoldering sensuality underneath. Also, his friendship with her felt real. I see no chemistry between Jody and Mindy, friendship or otherwise. Having said that, I really liked the breakup of Danny and Mindy because it was unexpected and brave of the show. I want to see her remain independent for a while.

reply

I loved Danny telling Jody that, if it didn't work out with him, why would it work out with Jody. Because, of course, they're very similar characters.

I enjoyed that too and hopefully that will end this whole Jody being attracted to Mindy storyline. Besides enjoying Danny's appearance, I actually liked the bartender guy and hope we see more of him. I don't mind Mindy dating other people, just not Jody.

reply

I'm not sure that's what he meant. It almost felt like a dig at Mindy.

While I love Danny and I loved him hugging her and I don't think M/D are finished, I don't think M/J is done either. He likes her too much.

I'm waiting for a hot, complicated, hip, funny, charming Indian guy to show up and challenge Mindy. After all, she's done a lot of things to appall her Indian parents - now, she would have to struggle with new ways to do that with someone who is very familiar with their parental expectations and culture.
