Jody's accent

At best it's a bad imitation of a southern drawl. Part of the time he sounds like he may be British or from India but trying to sound American. It's not what people from anywhere in the south sound like. Some words come out like he studied Gone With The Wind for this role. The dialect from that movie died before the 20th century. It's spotty and I wish they hadn't specified that his character was "southern". I don't think he's from another country I just think his bad accent is making it sound like he is..

Have you ever spoken to a real person - not on TV - from India or Britain who was trying to sound America? Haha I'll agree with you that his accent is bad but it just sounds like a bad southern accent, definitely not like he's from another country.

Considering the show is consistently "tongue-in-cheek" funny and obviously a little over the line of absurd (for reality), I've always assumed they intentionally over-emphasized Jody's accent. He's meant to be more of a caricature than a genuine "Southerner". I'm from the south, and I don't find it bothersome. And, quite honestly, I HAVE known people with similar, heavy drawls that sound like they belong in the 1800's.

I'm from the South and find it funny. It comes across as intentional as his ideals seem straight out Gone with the Wind.

? Exactly

No, the accent is not realistic, but it is humorous. I go to the mindy project for light laughs, not accuracy.

No, no real Southerner, anywhere, sounds like that. It's the Foghorn Leghorn accent. It'd be OK if Jody were a talking rooster; as it is, it's just ridiculous.
