Season 5: What Happens Next? Predictions/Spoilers
We know one thing that will happen in season 5: *beep* will hit the fan.
Everything else, is just speculation.
Here's my take:
The M/D coupling or bust. Mindy has some tough calls, try to make things work with the father of her child, or move on.
Before everyone says what a terrible idea it is for Mindy to give Danny a second chance, remember, Mindy and Danny have a child together. They were a family. I agree that it was objectively terrible for Danny to cheat on his fiancee, and there are a myriad of problems with their relationship, but if there is even the tiniest chance they can make things work, repair their relationship and create a stable loving household for their family, they will take it. This is not just petty high school drama, these are two adults with a history and a son.
As for Jody, I don't hate the relationship, but I don't see Jody as a partner to Mindy in any way other than his ability to provide for Mindy and Leo. He is still very immature, sexist, but the most compelling thing about him is his ability to TRY for Mindy, which we never saw Danny do. Jody is much older than Mindy, but still very much a boy in many ways, and trying to learn how to be in a relationship, and change his ways. Jody's desire to make changes to himself is only coming out of his attraction for Mindy, which is really only playing on the chauvinistic man trying to change his ways because he finally found a woman who inspired him to change trope, which is compelling but not enough to sustain their relationship, esp with all their obstacles already.
I also think Jody cares much more for Mindy than she does for him. Jody's strong suits embody all of the things Danny lacked, Jody is willing to apologize, change and compromise for Mindy, which Danny has proven himself unable to do. Jody also respects Mindy's autonomy for the most part (let's not talk about the breastfeeding incident because I wouldn't be able to come back from that but w/e) which Danny had been known to frequently undermine (her eating habits, her career, etc).
I ultimately think the J/M coupling is a simply a stepping stone for Mindy, unfortunately, to see that someone could provide her those things Danny wouldn't, and to give Danny a reality check.
I really think it will come down to Danny making a change. Letting Mindy have her career and autonomy and letting go of some of his own issues. He clearly has a lot more complex baggage than everyone else, which makes him such a nightmare sometimes. He has parental issues, a past failed marriage already, and clearly isn't doing so well because he immediately jumped into a new marriage. Total red flag.
Danny is either going to grow a lot and prove he can treat Mindy right, or she will move on to someone new after Jody has shown her how another man could care for her.
