Season 4 finale (all spoilers)

First of all, I was really disappointed in Mindy that she "went back" to Danny when they were stuck in the elevator. Granted, it seems like she was the one who instigated it, but I was hoping that she would just stay strong. Also, I wish she hadn't told him how she followed him around that day because it made her sound kind of desperate and then she didn't tell him about her dating any other guys, especially Drew (since they were "official", albeit for only 3 episodes).

Then, the fact that he just had sex with her without even telling her he was engaged and saying that he loved her were the real kickers. Obviously, she will find out that he is engaged by the time the next season comes back. I couldn't help but feel bad for her when she told Danny that she loved him, and then her coming back to Jody who had bought her a whole new apartment broke my heart for him since she was obviously still hung up on Danny at that time.

I was skeptical about the finale, but have got to admit that it impressed me overall.

It was a great episode and it solidifies for me that I'm solidly ride or die J/M.

I was not surprised that she slept with him. They proved a few episodes ago that if they are around each other that they will fall back into old habits.

But what was so strange is that when he thought of the first time he met his fiancée, his reaction is to kiss Mindy?

Nothing has changed. They both want the same things that broke them up originally.

I feel like as soon as Mindy finds out he's engaged, this is going to tear them apart permanently.

Meanwhile, I just rewatched the episode where Danny finds out that Mindy is taking birth control and she lashes out and tells him that he always tells her what's wrong with her and has taken control over all of her decisions and he tells her he has to.

And on the flip side, Jody--who I wasn't even paying attention to back then--is a complete partner to her. And when she leaves from fighting with Danny to deliver her first child for her practice, Jody looks at her with this confident smile. He respects her. He makes her feel good about herself.

Danny and Mindy don't work. If Danny doesn't fix himself, he'll never work with anyone.

I agree with all of this. But I fear Danny x Mindy is endgame. One of the showrunners gave an interview saying how "We know how much fans want Danny and Mindy back together."

Jody and Danny's fiance are just obstacles and Mindy will end up in a relationship with a guy who's bad for her in the end because it's "romantic."

reply

I fear that too but the longer CM is gone, the weaker his hold will be. MK might have brought GD in to prepare for CM's departure eventually.

Truth be told, I had to see you one more time, even if it was from a distance.

I agree that Mindy and Danny are now horrible for each other (which makes me really sad considering how good their relationship used to be), but I have to disagree about Jody and Mindy.
On his own Jody is an incredibly sexist person; I don't see why the writers ever matched a strong female character like Mindy with someone who gives cigars to patients that have only male babies, sleeps with his brothers wife, and lies about having chlamdyia to someone he's about to have sex with, and would use a sandwich bag as a condom rather than tell Mindy the truth!
My problems with Mindy and Jody are more based off personal opinions of the characters and their actions, and I know that many other viewers have different viewpoints so I won't go into them. Honestly I just don't see how an amazing female character such as Mindy could somehow end up with the frankly sexist Jody or the controlling Danny. Something big has to change next season with her two love interests.

Agreed! I miss the first season when she was mostly dating guys outside of the practice. The writers definitely need to bring in someone new to shake things up with Mindy's love life. There aren't too many options left around the workplace (except for Morgan...which would actually be pretty entertaining), and it would be nice for her to find someone who didn't constantly put her down and/or treat her with less respect because she is a woman. Danny is a selfish jerk and Jody is only just getting over his man slut phase, so I think it would be good for her to have a respectful man who adds no extra drama to her already hectic life.

Side note: I wish that the writers would have done more with the bartender she had the one night stand with-- I thought they would have made a cute couple.

reply

Yes please! Bring back that cute bartender who also seemed like a fun but respectable character, not an ass like Danny or a sexist like Jody. Well, maybe Jody's not that bad, just old and old-fashioned. 😉

I gotta defend Jody a little bit here. He was not going to wear the sandwich bag as a condom. He was going to use the banana wrapped in a sandwich bag in place of his own penis. He was perfectly willing to wait to have safe sex with her. She, on the other hand, wasn't even going to insist on a condom; she just assumed he had no STDs and was just like, whatever, I'm on the pill (apparently she's a "do as I say, not as I do" sort of OB-GYN).
