So Danny and Mindy were too opposite but Jody and Mindy aren't?

Just clarifying.... So Danny and Mindy couldn't work out because they were too opposite so we are thrust back into yet another opposites attract storyline? That is less entertaining and interesting than the Danny and Mindy one? Way to jump the shark after scoring a second chance on Hulu. If opposites attract doesn't make for an interesting coupling just have Peter get a divorce and let him and Mindy get married and move to Hollywood and become vapid narcissists together. The beauty of Mindy and Danny was she lightened him up and he kept her a bit grounded. He should have just became a stay at home Dad and Mindy should have gone off and became the bread winner....Messina could have had time to work on films and done some hilarious frazzled house husband stuff and Kaling could have built up her ensemble like she is obviously enjoying doing. And whilst on my soapbox....pathetic miss use of Ed Weeks....jump ship if you can and find someone who appreciates your brilliant acting!!!!!

There was some issue with Chris Messina. We don't know if it was just movie scheduling (movies don't film for a year straight, so that excuse preventing him from having a major role all season doesn't hold water) or beef with Mindy Kaling behind-the camera, but regardless the show has been negatively affected by it.

Nevertheless, Jody and Mindy could be good fun, and I like that they're taking it slow. In this particular episode I didn't hate Mindy's romantic fling for the first time in awhile so I'm a little upset by what I see as inevitable now.

I don't like Mindy being mean to other women. Just save that for Morgan. 😋

Danny was a douche to Mindy. Jody is not.

It's not that they were too opposite. It was that they weren't communicating. She didn't feel comfortable to tell him what she wanted and he didn't want to hear it.

But Jody and Mindy communicate. He apologizes when he is out of line. She tells him when he is out of line. He respects what she wants out of her life. He's not trying to change that.

And the big difference is that Mindy clearly felt inferior to Danny and therefore didn't stand up for herself. Jody and Mindy are equals.

reply

That's exactly it. They didn't communicate. She assumed that Danny wanted her to move in while Danny was thinking about his mother. She didn't say what she felt. Their interest changed. If it wasn't for that fellowship that opened her eyes, Mindy would definitely be a stay at home mom. Mindy didn't say what she was thinking and Danny didn't consider what Mindy was thinking.

ed weeks' character is by far the most annoying and pointless on any show i have seen. wish he would jump ship

That's your opinion. I prefer Jody x Mindy to Danny x Mindy.

The problem with Mindy and Danny isn't just differences, it's that Danny has no interest in changing the cement hold on his lifestyle or his views. He puts up a wall anytime tries. Jody may be a fish out of water but he's been open to learning and changing. eg. being willing to wear regular clothes is a metaphor for being open to new things. He's been more sensitive to Mindy than Danny usually is.

This is a huge reason why I hate the Mindy/Jody pairing....it feels so completely unrealistic. Say what you will about Danny and Mindy, but so much of their credibility as a couple came from the fact that they remained honest as characters. With Jody it feels like they have taken all of Danny's bad traits and sanitized them to make Jody seem like the dream romantic lead. It sounds nice that Jody did a complete 180 from his original mysoginistic, brash personality, but that's not likely for a middle aged male in such a short span of time. Nothing about Mindy/Jody feels earned or believable.

I NEVER normally watch a show for a romantic pairing, but Mindy and Danny was such a strong staple for The Mindy Project that it is disappointing to see their relationship crumble. However, if Mindy and Danny don't end up together then I could at least stomach it because the writers are being honest at how difficult it would be for those two opposites to make a relationship work. I don't see how they can make Jody and Mindy work when Jody doesn't feel like an honest character.
