Since most new sitcoms typically flop I found the first season surprisingly funny. Sure, there were unfunny and kludgy moments.... but all in all it wasn't bad. Early on in season 1 you could tell there was a lot of rewriting characters and dropping people completely.
2nd season was very funny, but even more retooling. Mindy's close friends became a revolving door on the show.
Season 3 was already starting to get too hokey with the comedy. Mindy's love interests in the shows were giving so much focus that you're thinking that they'll become a regular fixture.... but then they leave, leaving a hole on the show where they once were. The lopsided, over focus on the love interests was overwhelming at times; especially after you come to realize they're going to be gone in a handful of seasons.
The show now feels nothing like it did during seasons 1-2.... too many people playing the role of 'funny man'. Part of the thing that made The Office unbearable to watch after a few seasons.
According to what verucasalt said about this show, Mindy is trying to be like "Master Of None" for some reason. But I have a feeling that this "Master Of None"-imitated situation sounds too hurried and careless for several reasons:
1.) The Mindy Project was first aired in FOX back in 2012. 2.) Since it has the same first-aired motion in FOX as New Girl, which was back in its own 2011 year, then The Mindy Project, New Girl, SYTYCD, Glee and American Idol were completely grouped as part of FOX teen entertainment marketing system. 3.) Master Of None was first aired in 2015, but permanently in this private network called Netflix. 4.) Finally, there was something wrong with FOX, not only they accept The Mindy Project was their bad choice, it could also be either that FOX a.) made a wrong a choice creating that FOX teen entertainment marketing system or b.) made a right choice creating that FOX teen marketing system, but with their own careless technique.
I was wondering that it would be too impossible for The Mindy Project to imitate Master Of None in a hurry, while being in FOX. Fortunately, not only The Mindy Project is out of FOX and into a private network called Hulu, the entire FOX teen marketing system is officially shutdown back in May 2015 due to different problems occurring.
I'm sure verucasalt is officially glad The Mindy Project is no longer on FOX. Not only that, I'm glad the FOX teen entertainment marketing system is officially shutdown, Glee and American Idol are officially cancelled and of air and New Girl main actress Zooey Deschanel became a mother in the middle of New Girl series.
Ignore Irehawk. She's been on these boards for years spewing absolute nonsense about Fox's failed "teen marketing" and how the actress who played Betsy needs to come back. She's delusional.
Hold it right there, Anita89. How dare you call me posts, especially FOX failed teen marketing, as "spewed absolute nonsense" when they are not even nonsense.
Besides this point about the actress who played Betsy needing to come back, there are other points that are also involved also caused FOX's failed teen marketing:
* Death of Glee actor who played Finn. * The Glee actress who played Marley. * The hurried pregnancies of both Glee actress who played Britany and New Girl actress who played Jessica. * Death of three American Idol alumnuis. * The permanent exit of SYTYCD judge Mary Murphy without a return.
So don't think I am that delusional yet, these are not even absolute nonsense at all.
If you're going to continue arguing with me, then please get out of my way right now!
And the actress who played Betsy brought nothing interesting to the show, much less any attention from a teen audience. I simply don't understand your obsession with her and with this "failed teen marketing" of which you constantly speak.
The Mindy Project and New Girl were marketed together, yes. But not to teens, as their main advertising demographic was college educated 20-30 year old women.
These two shows has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. They were never marketed together. They simply do not have the same audience.
Glee, Mindy Project and New Girl are marketing altogether, but they all only attract these fanbases of both teens and 20-30 year old adults, on one hand. Of course, American Idol and SYTYCD were marketed together, but not with Glee, Mindy Project and New Girl, but they both only attract these fanbases of both teens and and 20-30 year old adults, on another hand.
On another hand, these three cranky old actresses Beth Grant, Rhea Perlman and Jenny O'Hara are way too mature than the age level of Glee actress Jane Lynch, so these cranky old actresses may not fit to attract the fanbases of both teens and 20-30 year old adults.
