Season 1 = The Best Season

I agree.

Maybe other viewers are of two minds about this show. The change in tone between seasons is realistic; most people's lives, especially women's, become not as funny as life is in one's twenties. (I assume that The Mindy Project has Mindy in her early thirties in Season 1, but one's early thirties are actually the best, last years of one's twenties!) Last season (Season 4) and the first episode of this season are so far from the comedy genre, it's almost a cheat to call the show a comedy anymore.

On the other hand, since Season 1 was as hilariously funny as it was, viewers might feel as if the show pulled the rug out from under them with the genre-bending.

The issue is whether Mindy Kaling intended the show to be a comedy because she is such a brilliant comedy writer...but also intended it to be a semi-political show about women and, well, life's fundamental rottenness. This is the aspect of The Mindy Project I feel was fraudulent. Sure, Season 1 is full to spilling over with evidence of life's rottenness, but then it made fun of the rottenness instead of turning it into an invisible lead character. The series could have remained a comedy if sex, "relationships," and more sex and more relationships had stayed in the background. Realize that in Season 1, sex, "love," and all that rom-com crap really are in the background; the show is an ensemble comedy in the best sense of that word.

I have to agree with season 1 also.

agreed about season one being the best. but disagree about it currently being god. it was on a gradual decline all along and as of last season became too much for me to stick around. I hear Messina is gone now and that is just insane. top it off with Mindy's have reworked her face and there's no way I would be able to stomach the show anymore.
