Depressing

Anyone else find this show really depressing now? I used to love it so much. My friends and I would literally get together for viewing parties. But ever since she got pregnant and had the baby, Mindy has gotten depressing. She went from self confident and hilarious to saying things such as "Im Old As Dirt"...since I'm Mindy's age, it really makes me want to cry at times.
And the Whole Later Baby business is so depressing and boring. How out of touch-- I dont know of anyone under 25 who is willing to spend money on freezing eggs. They're all more preoccupied with finding jobs, paying loans and trying like crazy to make rent.
This show used to be so funny and fun. Now, I find myself feeling like crap after watching each episode. Like I'll never have a baby, will die alone and am old and useless.
I miss the old Mindy. I hate it when a good show goes downhill so quickly and drastically.

reply

I am with you it has gone down hill SOOOO bad....trust me you aren't alone!
"Laugh and the world laughs with you....cry and I'll give you something to cry about."

reply

I think it's better than its been since season 1. I love the Mindy/Jody and Mindy/Morgan interactions.

reply

Totally agree. I used to be obsessed with this show and found episodes to be rewatchable. However, this feels like a totally different show since Danny faded out.
And I have thought the same thing about the Later Baby business from the beginning --how many college-age women have money to freeze their eggs??

reply

Exactly. I'm in my twenties and when that egg freezing business came up I was really confused - like, am I the only one who didn't even think about egg freezing in college?? But no, lol it seemed like a strange business to go into from the start. The show feels much more like a drama than a comedy, I don't really watch much anymore. I miss the first 3 seasons.

reply

No, most college students don't think about freezing their eggs, and that's why Later Baby is doing lectures, to increase awareness, get people thinking about it. Most women want babies, and most college students want a career, and there they are presented with a dilemma that can be dealt with through freezing their eggs so they can have both. I was a poor college student who couldn't freeze my eggs if I wanted to, but lots more come from money or get into high-powered careers with high paychecks. Major tech companies are known to offer egg freezing as a part of their benefits package, it's becoming very common.

reply

I think my insurance offers it.

reply

I agree about Later, Baby and the egg freezing being unnecessary. It's understandable why Mindy wanted to start her own business, but the choice she made was pretty random and I don't think it has tied in well with the show. Plus, her splitting her time between the practice and her own business seems kind of unrealistic. I can't decide if I like season 1 or season 2 better, but they were by far leaps and bounds ahead of season 4. I know they are trying to push for the Mindy and Jody coupling, and I like him better than I used to, but I would trade both him and Colette back in a second to have Peter back as a regular. I loved that he and Mindy became such good friends even though they were opposites. And I actually prefer it when she dates guys outside of the office, so I would rather her have Peter as a friend than Jody as a love interest.

reply

The business unrealistic but reality. I almost sold my eggs and they offered to freeze some for me for free as well. Maybe you're just old.

reply

At least I'm not mean. Hopefully you'll learn to be a kinder person one day. Hoping for the best for you!

reply

If you pride yourself on being kind to internet strangers you're loopy. Being kind is much more than bring nice on the internet to people you don't know.

reply

I think you never know what someone's going through-- just because they're a stranger on the internet doesn't mean you can't show kindness. With all that's happened this past week, isn't there enough hate and anger in this world. It's so easy to be nice to someone as opposed to mean. I may be just a stranger on the Internet to you, but I assure you I'm a very real person. The day you wrote that comment to me, I had just gotten some heart breaking news that had me in tears. Reading your comment was like being kicked when I was already down. Maybe I am "old" iyho, but in my old age, I have learned that being kind is always the better road to take whether you're talking to a stranger, friend or enemy.
It's not that I pride myself on being kind to internet strangers. It's just I try not be needlessly mean to anyone I encounter if I can help it. I didnt do or say anything to you personally to warrant that mean comment. I just don't understand why you felt the need to hurt someone you don't even know. To behave like that, all I can think is that maybe you're very lonely or this world has hurt you somehow, and for that I will keep you in my prayers for healing Hopefully things will get better for you! Wishing you nothing but good things and blessings!

I had to respond, because this is so well-written.

But speaking as someone who does practice what you recommend here-- I have no trouble whatever reminding some cruel idiot bursting with eggs, ha, that she is getting older--and older--and way way way older--every blessed day.

OLDER.

We ALL get older eventually, dear. Even you---you are no exception to the rule, and never will be. And your eggs are going to get older just like everybody's else's eggs or sperm---bwahbwahbwah! No point in wasting putting down anybody else for that. No one remains young and perky forever, lol.

You're just too too sensitive for this world. Consider leaving it for the Moon or Mars.

reply

^^^ I agree with noone22. Most college age girls are selling their eggs not freezing them. They might freeze a few after getting paid to harvest them but that's about it.

reply

Yes, depressing. The show has been on a steep decline this season—actually, it started last season; I iwasn't even going to watch this season. And I did stop several episodes back, when it just became Mindy dating a different rando every week. I tuned in for a bit of the finale and couldn't finish it. Use to love it; now it's....well, you said it, depressing.

reply

I told all the Mindy Project fans not to broaden the focus on too many Mindy's men right now. I know it is part of the challenge for this show and unfortunately they went too far beyond the limit, making the balance of this entire show and its main cast too offshoot and making the baby too depressing and boring. They all won't listen to me and they al learned the hard way.

mindy's only like 40, she can still have another kid and some people could mistake her for 36ish and it would make her day if it happened

according to all knowing google 45 is basically the point of no return for having a child as a woman each year after 40 you see a dramatic decrease in chance.

40 certainly possible 43 hard but possible 45 maybe 1 in a 100 that tries and 46 like winning the lotto.

As a doctor character it seems possible shes aware of the stats
