I Tried Watching "X"

And just couldn't get into it, but if you enjoy it?? Then that's all that matters.. 😎

Her movies are for weirdos.

reply

I guess I'm a weirdo!

reply

It's a slow drag for sure. But I am glad I saw it before Pearl, which I loved.

reply

Saw X in theaters and it bored the hell out of me. Takes too long to get going and totes too much of a line between paying homage and just ripping off TCM

reply

It hasn't showed up on TCM yet.

reply

Talking about Texas Chainsaw Massacre

reply

I know; just shooting for some laughs.

reply

Homaged Motel Hell more than Texas Chainsaw. It's lazy when reviewers keep touting it as close to Chainsaw. Nothing like it other than it's based in the deep South with a Southern Gothic feel.

reply

It has plenty of TCM aesthetics in it.

reply

It's based in red neck country, Southern Gothic, that's about it. Story wise, not at all.

It's more like Motel Hell, and 70s, early 80s slashers.

A big part of the TCM series is the family, and the other villagers all being in on it or related. Example: a kindly stranger at the start of the movie, or cop appear again later, and you think they are going to help, but they are cousins with the main family and drag you back into hell. That's missing here.

Rob Zombie nailed the TCM feel with House of 1000 Corpses.

True Detective S1 came closer with the cops investigating the TCM like family after the murders happened.

reply

I was mostly talking about the washed out lighting, particularly outdoors. I don't know if Hooper intended that on TCM, or if it was just a product of shooting on super 16mm, but X's outdoor scenes really reminded me of the photography in TCM.

reply

That is right. The Southern Gothic look was captured.

Anything else related to The Texas Chains Massacre is missing, so if you see a reviewer comparing it to TCM without mentioning look and southern atmosphere, they are lazy and don't know that much about movies as there are way better examples out there, and films way closer to capturing TCM than X did.

reply

Is this like the old Angel movies? Police don't help so she stalks the killer herself?

reply

The worst part was when the cameraman's girlfriend decided to be in the porn.

reply

for some reason i decided to start off with the third movie.
but will definitely skip on the other two.
