Questions about the end of the film

I'm not sure I really fully understood what happened at the end where Mckenzie was woke up and went onto the ferry deck to talk to Bart. Was it that Bart posing as Mckenzie sent a text to the uncle to meet her on the ferry deck? So Bart could see him? I thought Bart asked the uncle for his address. I'm assuming that's how he knew where her uncle lived, am I right? Also, that message Mckenzie read on that map at the end, what was that about? Was Bart saying that he was coming to Seattle?

reply

I think he wants to continue being a father figure for her to save her.
As for the uncle, I think he'd confront saying "If you do that again, I'd call the police." as that'd be enough for now.

I thought Rene had initially went there to beat up/kill the uncle, but realized the situation that Mackenzie was in and realized if he did do anything he'd probably be facing jail time, assault charges, might even be killed, etc. He knew she needed stability and some type of parental figure as her mom was either and addict or was sick. So he made the decision to walk away from the uncle confrontation and keep the promise he had made to Mackenzie on the map. I was thinking maybe they already had enough evidence to charge the scummy uncle anyway, they had the text convos and her testimony too if she should pursue it.

One does not decide to turn into a murderer over a 14 year mixed up girl.
That is the movies for sure. Who knows what this was ... that ending made
no sense.

Bart sent the message to get the Uncle off the boat and to go back home,
and then also to get his address, as he pretend he is Kenzie and has forgotten
the address.

But just as they are meeting as the uncle opens the door the music playing
is the "parting glass" at this lyric ... sounds like someone is going to die or
something ... very confusing and unless I missed something big stupid.

But since it fell into my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

Bart did ask the uncle for the address, so he could confront him.

And yes, Bart was telling her that he would see in in Seattle.

We can probably safely conclude that Bart may have told him off, and warned him away from Mackenzie, but did not do anything that would interfere with him returning to Seattle, where he could continue to help MacKenzie.
