it is very strange, the movie really looks like a prequel to another movie :
Wild (2014) --> same word in title
with Reese Witherspoon --> same face for the girl main actrees.
Nature theme too
drama too
same year (2014) of release
is it a coincidence ?
And she's out hiking as a way to recover from a personal tragedy, so it sure sounds like it! But they came out the same year so that seems to make it very unlikely. Nice connection though.
shareyep, it is not easy for distributor to release movie in the same period like another one of the same theme , specially when it is a blockbuster :
- Armageddon & Deep Impact (both movie about saving planet from meteor impact)
- White House Down & Olympus Has Fallen (both movie about white house attack)
- ID4 & Mars Attacks (alien invasion; ok one is funny, the other not)
above that, i liked both movie (and both actrees too! )
I think the phenomenon was noticed at least as far back as patent filings where it is common for two people to file patents on the same idea on the same day even when there's no apparent connection between them. I think some ideas are simply "in the air" culturally and such movie pairs may be additional examples of this.
