Idk if this is true, but perhaps explain why her emotion looks more male than female in other female characters. Like look at Riley's female friends emotions, Fear and Anger have female characteristic. Mom too. New emotion Embarrassment too looks male in Riley's Mind HQ.

Thank God. I have a strong feeling the "dark secret" thing they play around with at the beginning of the movie and then reveal at the end was originally supposed to be that she was gay. Glad they changed it. She does come off as quite boyish, and I can definitely see hints of her being gay throughout, though they're ambiguous enough that they could be dismissed as her being a tomboy, as is common for a girl her age. Not addressing it at all was the best way to go. There's no need for it in a film like this, which doesn't focus on romance or attraction in the slightest.
