Why do people hate Adam Sandler as a whole now?!

In 2010 and before, people used to praise Adam Sandler despite the fact that they thought he went downhill, but now everybody hates EVEN his earlier movies(Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy). Why is that?

It's like Taylor Swift, Pixar and Phineas and Ferb. People used to love those things but now they're so unbelievably hated on.

I still like Click, is just the matter that he is not trying to do good movies anymore, he does terrible movies without giving a *beep* knowing that people will go watch them just because of his star power, slowly destroying good movie productions with good scripts. No wonder people who give a *beep* about film start hating his films all together. Hope that answers your question.

People should 'hate' the moviegoers that give Adam Sandler such a long and prosperous career.

reply

I totally agree. I mean come on, his movies are below mediocre, worn out jokes all the time and always this same expression in his face. I don't know what kind of connections to hollywood this guys has, anyone else would have be gone big time years ago.

reply

Can't agree more. How anyone finds him funny is beyond me. There are stand-up comedians out there who are 100 times funnier and don't even get one movie deal.

reply

yeah it must suck writing funny and original jokes only to be outdone and out-shined by a guy who poops aaaaaaaand that's the joke.

reply

I don't think it has to do with star power and him not caring. Adam has always come off as very humble. If anything, I think he doesn't care about money and just enjoys working with his friends and maybe putting some dough in their pockets.

reply

You know what, maybe, I give you that. I don't know him personally so you could be right. I would just point out the reason why people might hate him as a whole now, and some people, def not the majority since he made a lot of money with this movie. At least i dislike him for that.

reply

The BO says differently. His fanbase is obviously still there.

reply

I think he is just a factory for films, he bangs out one film a year knowing that enough people will watch it to make it worth his while. It worked years ago when he was making stuff Happy Gilmore and The Waterboy but is starting to fail now, making trash like Grown Ups 2, but his films are still making money so that all that really matters to him.

I still like Click

The first and only thing that came to my mind scrolling around here. While the rest of that post was possibly presumptuous - Sandler's sense of comedy never clicked with me (pun intended, as 'Click' is an exception, being an effective comedy (with crappy attempts of humor at times) and a powerful drama at the same time, something not easily pulled off). Even that movie seems to have succeeded randomly, seeing as Sandler hasn't learned much from it. Hollywood 1 on 1 basically.

Btw, I haven't seen this movie nor do I intend to, so feel free to ignore this post which you must have read before reaching this sentence anyway :).

What the heck are you on about? Everybody still loves Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, etc--even non-Sandler fans. It's just everything from the last 6-7 years that people hate.

I still love PDL, The Waterboy, Billy Madison and 50 First Dates. But the sh!t he's been putting out really are the worst I've seen in the past few years. It really seems as if AS is doing nothing but a cash grab which makes me resent him for selling out and lowering movie quality standards. People are willing to put up with Sandler's garbage and that is really terrible.

1941 and Always are like Casablanca when compared to anything Adam Sandler has done these past 5 years.

Just your typical internet hate bandwagon. Collective dislike is like catnip to simple minds.

Brilliant quote! Absolutely true.

I may not like some of his recent movies but I still love Sandler. I grew up with his movies and comedy albums in the '90s.

#1 People started to turn on Sandler way before 2010. I gave up hope around 2004-2005.

#2 "Everyone" hates his early movies? Based on what? I haven't enjoyed a Sandler movie since Big Daddy and think he's a pathetic joke, but I still love BM, HG and TWS as much as I did before Sandler's career went downhill.

Also, why does stating the sad truth always have to be classified as "hate"? I don't hate Adam Sandler. I'm envious that he's so financially successful despite putting forth so little effort, but envy is different from hate and my envy of his personal life doesn't enter into my opinion of his work. Good for him for finding a formula that works and allows him to support his family. I'd do the same thing if given the opportunity.

Anyways, I don't hate Sandler; I'm disappointed in him. I think the talent and the ability to make good comedies is still there, but he mails it in. I want so badly to see him made great comedies again. His vehicles just have so little effort and creativity. They're pure cash grabs. Lowest common denominator bullcrap. It's lazy and disappointing.

I enjoyed Funny People thoroughly, and I think the main reason is that Sandler was not the primary creative force behind the film. He just played a character. I think if Sandler hooked up with someone who could write him a good script and a talented director, and was surrounded by the right cast (I.e. not his buddies), he could be great again.

I liked Adam Sandler. I still do. I'm just not that happy anymore with the movies he does. I mean, i love Mr. Deeds, 50 First Dates, Spanglish and Reign Over Me. But i ave no idea what the funyn thing about Zohan or Grown Ups 2 is. The latest was so incredibly dumb. It's just sad as i liked him. But Jack and Jill firt and now thi. haven't even seen That's My Boy. But i'm still hoping for a wonder. Maybe next year with Drew again?
