Yep, i was asking myself the same question. That movie was more expensive to make than, say, Looper and Rush combined...
One would expect the CGI-deer to be, well, slightly better than that with a $80 million budget...
That said, i think the previous poster is correct. If I were Chris Rock, i would demand a huuuge check before i agree to play in this thing...

These movies are paid vacations for Sandler & Co. The entire cast and crew take their families and friends along with them. They stay in five star accommodation, the best trailers, they have first class meals and they all get paid a heft wedge.

Sandler's fee, as writer/producer/star is usually in the range of 25 to 35 million dollars. Wouldn't surprise me if Rock and James were paid another $10 mill each. That's already about £55 million gone.

Most of the money doesn't end up on-screen, it's enjoyed by the cast and crew. Since Sandler usually makes a lot of money for his investors, they don't mind letting him indulge.
