1) I can understand a little historical fiction, but to take real people who existed and completely twist their history is detrimental to all those who watch it and don't know any better. Like watching Disney's Pocahontas. A Christian army invading Mongolia at the end of the series? Really?

2) I felt the characters become more "modernized" as the show went on. They became more relatable in ways that I can only assume were due to changes in writing style. For example, Kublai seemed much more approachable as the series went on and not so feared and dangerous (unless you are a five-year old).

3) The story arc of Marco losing the trust of his captors only to gain it back by some wild stroke of fortune was getting old.

4) We all have access to free porn online now. It's not necessary to have all the sex/nudity scenes cluttering up the show (perhaps a Weinstein requirement).

It's "based on a true story." And obviously adapted for modern audiences.
And the concubines and nudity were true to history. Don't expect 13th century Mongolia to meet 21st century standards of decorum.

Nudity / sex was only relevant in that it keeps a certain segment of the viewership interested. Of course it was alive and well in the 13th century, but it did nothing to drive the plot of the show.

I agree. Plus, it just adds to the monumental expenses, resources and effort that has gone into making movies - none of which are useful to humanity - to put it in inflated terms.

We end up filling a void in our historical knowledge with something that we know already is a fictionalization, so why do people watch this stuff?

The world would be better off if everyone stuck more or less to the truth. After all it is the best policy.

Since you've established there's no need for the show in toto, a sex scene or two is right in line with its purpose.

There is difference between truth and entertainment. This show was never intended to be a documentary.

The "I don't want sex in a movie" is as weird, to me, as "I want sex in a movie".

Sex in a movie is fine if it drives the plot. 9 out of 10 HBO / Showtime sex or nudity scenes are just to give guys in the audience something to look at. Now that we have pornhub, it is kind of irrelevant. 30 years ago, some of us relied on HBO to show us what boobs looked like. Not anymore.
