Things we learned with the Marco Polo series ...

I loved the series but here is where I had to suspend disbelief:

1) Everyone speaks one language and perfectly! (Even the crusaders in the end can have sophisticated conversations with the Mongolians ... no problem!)

2) ALL women are better fighters than men.

3) Marco Polo's dad, even though a silk trader can fight much better than all of the Mongolian soldiers he fought against in the 2nd to last episode

4) Everywhere can get anywhere fairly quickly, even though the Mongolia/China areas are huge!

5) Everyone can be found ANYWHERE, even though the Mongolia/China areas are huge!

6) The Mongolian soldiers at the very end would rather fight for a Persian than for the 2 sons of the Kahn and the Kahn's main monk !!!

7) A blind guy can see/navigate much better than anyone else... even things at a distance ...

8) One can heal bones in the middle of a fight and still win it ...

ANYONE ELSE ???

I agree with each and every point you make but I still love the show. Suspend disbelief for all the action sequences and you're rewarded with some wonderful acting performances. I was so happy to see Joan Chen in this.

YES. I REALLY liked the show too but I can still have fun finding where we had to forget logic ...
Them speaking English was not my biggest issue because of course we the audience need to understand... but not even addressing the language issues BETWEEN so many people... everyone could communicate without and need for translators ... even the crusaders could have sophisticated dialogs with those living on these lands ...
It did not matter if you were muslim, chinese, italian, english, mongolian, child or old, they all spoke the same language!
That was funny I thought...
Again: I wish there was a season THREE !!!

Yes also! The language situation was pretty silly. I did think of your point while watching the show. It is funny, no question about that! I wish they would do season three too!

I would add the appearance of a crusader army. See my other post about Nestorians in China and Mongolia. But I still think these are all forgivable creative adaptations as the series stays true overall to Polo's even more amazing story.

9) Marco Polo can magic up the plans for war machinery on the spot.

10) Clever schemes are mainly simple and straight-forward plans, which get nifty conspiracies by being treated as such.

In regards to your number eight. From that scene I took it as a shoulder being dislocated and needing to be popped back in. Or a elbow I guess? Once you dislocated something a few times it happens easier which would explain that whole situation.

I'm on episode 1, and I don't think I'll finish it. For me, once they started speaking, I was taken out, almost immediately.

Having people actually speaking Mandarin, Mongolian, Cantonese, and English would bring a whole new dynamic. i.e. Deadwood. If the show relies on heavy dialogue to push the story forward, then that just tells me, they need to go back the drawing board. True Detective and The Crown are great examples of shows that don't rely so heavily on Dialogue.

Kind if makes me a little sad because I was hoping, being Asian myself, this show would show a bit more promise. But who knows, it must be doing well as it's been given a third season.
