Spoilers of course.

So if the two bodies in the lake are Jim Blackwell and "an unidentified female," presumably Bradley, then I wonder where Dr. Edwards's body is.

They finally showed Emma outside of the house! Yay!

The Sheriff doesn't buy Norman's story for a second, but she'll have no choice. Right at the end of the telling of it, Norman almost smirked for a second, it was great.

Weird about Emma's mom's body. I don't think they ever 100% confirmed her body was in the pit intended to be the pool, but they made it seem 99% like it was. Or Norman weirdly moved the body. I thought for sure it was going to be Bradley.

I think Dylan will end up cooperating.

Felt awful for Romero, wandering the house, his grief was palpable. The visions of Norma were a little cheesy, but it's nearly impossible to do that without it being cheesy. Made me think about them. Good couple. I've always felt bad for him that she only married him out of necessity, but really, Norma was practical, I don't think she'd marry for any reason but necessity. Her first two husbands were each an escape hatch from a worse situation, and Romero helped her.

Funny how the empty house is apparently a halfway house for vagrants. Chick, wow. Saw it coming a minute before it did.

And finding Sam, dang, I thought they were going to find Norma.

What's sad is that the truth will come out about Dylan's previous suspicions regarding Norman and Audrey, and I don't know if he and Emma will recover from that.

Ugh though, sorry, I hope the rest isn't just courtroom drama.

I was expecting chick to get shot right after he started loudly typing on the typewriter again. Why do you think Romero killed him though? He was a little strange and sort of helped norman cover things up but he didn't deserve to just die right there.

reply

I was more expecting Chick to be another one of Norman's victims, so that was a nice, unexpected twist (they do keep throwing those this season).

I don't recall Chick ever doing anything directly to Romero, so I would say it's just a culmination of everything Chick has done, that Romero is even aware of, probably especially focusing on his attempt at blackmailing Norma. Plus, random "Hey I'm going to exploit your family" probably didn't sit well. I don't think that would've pushed Romero to kill Chick under normal circumstances, but, in this situation, Romero probably just viewed Chick as an unpredictable loose end. Not necessarily a complication, but potential to become one, so, smarter to eliminate. I mean, had Chick survived, what do you think his reaction would've been? It wouldn't have been centered around compassion/helping, he would've just wanted to interview Romero to further his exploitation book, at the very least.

The second body is apparently Emma's mom, but I thought her body was at the bottom of the hole that was going to be a pool?

I did NOT see Romero shooting Chick coming, that was a surprise. I thought Chick would either be killed by Norman, or would live to wrote the book.
I guess Romero was just tired and sad and did not want to listen to Chick rambling on about his book any longer. he was like, 'oh just shut up already'
*bang*

I also thought it was interesting that 'Mother' tries to frame Madelaine for Sam's murder instead of Marion. It would be easy to blame Marion since she is already on the run, is already guilty of another crime, and has no alibi. Norman's word against Marion's, they might actually believe Norman (mother).
But Madelaine is right there to be questioned and she was the first to go the police to report her husband missing, so I don't think the police believed that story for a second.

Why do you think Mother blamed her? is it because Mother is jealous of Madelaine?

reply

I did think it seemed silly to blame Madeleine, for the reasons you stated, she can easily clear herself. Though accusing Marion hadn't occurred to me, but yeah, that would've been much smarter. I can only think of two reasons. 1: Mother did it because of jealousy directed at Madeleine, for tempting Norman. 2: They could only get Rihanna for two episodes ;)

reply

Haha reason 2 is probably it!
Do you think we will never see Marion again, like where she ended up?
She is so dumb in this version that she is bound to get caught soon.
It's harder to completely disappear in 2017, when everything is connected and computerized. You can go to another state but everything is linked. They have her fingerprints, to be a notary public (which she was), you have a background check and prints. She will get caught eventually.

reply

I don't think we'll see her again. The producers have said as much in interviews. Of course they could be lying, but I don't think so. Because it's impossible to fool yourself into being unaware that you're watching Rihanna, and just with how it was written, I feel like it makes narrative sense for her to be gone.

We disagree on the interpretation of her. I don't think she's terribly book smart, but she seems cunning and wiley, and like she may know how to find resources easily. Plus, she now has the cash readily available for such people. If she went a different route work-wise, she may be able to construct a new identity strong enough to withstand basic, mild scrutiny. Or maybe she fled to Mexico.

reply

I thought Emma's mom was in the pit too and I think my jaw hit the floor when Romero killed Chick.

reply

One thing that surprised me was the mention of the death penalty for murder. I think they mention it in the previews for episode 9.
I didn't think they had capital punishment in Oregon but I googled it and apparently they still do. They don't execute many people though, and I suspect that someone as mentally ill as Norman would not meet 'special circumstances'.

reply

So glad about Chick/ it was awesome!
