I thought she was playing Marion Crane, not Medusa.

reply

bwahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ... dat funny.

reply

Funny... except for the part where she hasn't been on set yet. But it should be interesting to see how they tame that style.

reply

Ha! The "hairstyle" is just added-on locks which can be undone in a matter of hours. Most likely she will have them removed before traveling to Vancouver, or wherever she's filming for Bates.

reply

cool.

reply

Still pissed about the casting. Im fine with having a black actress portray marion but they really needed an actual actress

reply

Viola Davis is a fantastic actress and would have blown this part out of the water 

reply

She is great but probably too old for the role

reply

Viola Davis is a fantastic actress, but she is also 51. In the case of Bates Motel, the actress needs to be closer in age to Freddie, rather than be older than Vera.

reply

How right you are. Viola Davis is IMO the best black actress out there. I can not stand Angela Bassett, who some adore. If your into actress's, over acting and chewing scenery, then Bassett's your girl.

reply

Viola Davis is busy trying to get away with murder. 

reply

I'm laughing my ass off big time at the thread/pics. 

Hopefully when Rihanna does come on the Bates Motel set, she won't have a ridiculous hairstyle like that.

reply

I would still like some logical reason why they cast her. All they said is that she is a fan of the show lol

reply

Three of my favorite shows are Six Feet Under, Dead Like Me, and Dexter. Do you realize how many famous people appeared on SFU and DLM as corpses, or appeared as victims of Dexter?

People volunteered to do all three shows because they loved the shows.

reply

I think the biggest reasons they cast her in this role are (1) her sex appeal, and (2) her popularity in the entertainment industry, and (3) to orient viewers away from the 1960's Marion.

Her acting capabilities remain to be seen, and I think people's concerns in that regard are perfectly legitimate. However, I won't pass judgment until I see the finished product.

Meanwhile, I don't think they were interested in casting a Janet Leigh look-alike because it would probably produce too many unfavorable comparisons to the original. They had 4 seasons to build up Freddie Highmore to the point where we are used to his version of "Norman" and can appreciate his performance apart from Perkins...but if he only had a few episodes, he would probably get the Vince Vaugn treatment from viewers and critics alike. So I can understand why they would not want to put any actress in the position of having to duplicate such an iconic performance as Leigh's.

reply

My problem with the casting is that I can't stand Rihanna. Anybody would be better than her. There are a lot of great actresses they could have hired. Black or white it doesn't matter.

reply

Then you must know her personally, then. Please tell us what about her makes you not be able to stand her, and think that "anyone" would be better than her.

reply

Also, let me further preface my request by saying that stuff you might have read about her on internet tabloid sites do not count.

I want to know specifically what about her character, ACTUAL deeds and actions that generate such repulsion in you.

reply

Give her a chance, I'm sure she will do well. Can't wait to hear that accent it's quite sexy.

reply

I'm curious to see how she does, even if I disagree with her being cast for the role. I won't dismiss her before she plays the role, and I have faith in the creators since they gave us a great show to this point.
