I actually thought a more intense ending would have been right after the 7:00 am bell rang, they killed them all before the left to plot their downfall next year. (I mean, who was going to be able to tell whether they died at 7:00 am or 6:59 am?)
What would the point of that be other than to have a stupid ending? If they were going to kill them, why would they wait until it was illegal when they had every opportunity to do it before?
But in the fictional reality we are given, the Purge is established.
So lets look at the facts.
1) It is perfectly legal for the neighbors to kill whoever they want during the purge. (UNDENIABLE)
2) The neighbors want to kill the Sandins. (UNDENIABLE)
3) Because it was legal, and will be legal next year there is no legal recourse to punish the neighbors NOR protect the Sandins next year. (UNDENIABLE).
4) Given those 3 undeniable facts, allowing the neighbors to live is suicide.
I DIDN'T CREATE THE FREAKING SCNENARIO DID I?
But given the scenario, your options are 1) move away and flee in the next 364 days, 2) accept you death, or 3) fight and kill the neighbors.
With which point, specifically do you disagree? Hmm?

Absolutely! We just got finished watching this movie, and this poster is right.
This family didn't go out looking for trouble. The a-hole neighbors came over to kill them, so killing them in self defense is justified, purge or no purge.
Letting them live is retarded. What, so they can come kill you next year?

but this is why the whole idea of the Purge IS interesting. it is not for random killing sprees: it's for doing that which you've always wanted to do, home free.
Nah, will be no need to. This idiots are so stupid I'm sure they'll find a reason to purge each other before the neighbors get a chance to. Worthless characters that we're supposed to care about?
1. They were all attacked there 2. Their Dad was killed there 3. The idiot daughter saw her idiot boyfriend die there 4. They now know that all their neighbors hate them 5. They realize their sense of security there is worthless
That's what I was thinking. The one blond b!tch got her nose broke. You don't think she's gonna come calling next year?? I do. Mom should've let the black guy execute them all. I would've felt it was justified. They're in my home, they're threatening my family, disrespecting the dead body of my spouse. Fck 'em.
It also gives them 364 days to plot some revenge. So the neighbours that wanted to kill are stupid for not finishing their plan. Now they have also lost the element of surprise or back stabbing to aid them. The main family could move go on holiday or as said plot revenge. Saying all that it's not a great ending to the movie but the idea is not retarded as to what someone may do.
next year they will not have the chance to do that.they grabbed the chance when they saw that their protection had been broken down by the other guys who were experts.they didn't intend to do that fron the beginning.even if the family won't move out(which is not possible) ,it is highly impossible that the neighbors will try to kill them all by breaking their security system.
