Reid - should I watch the show?

I just found season one and am really loving the show. However, I see that Reid is returning, which means he left at some point. How much of the show is without him? It's a great show, but I'm only watching for him as I don't think the other two can carry it.

You are pretty safe with seasons 1 to 3. Not going to say more as that might spoiler it for you.:)

Thank you, my new friend..... you made me feel much better about moving forward. I will do so and grit my teeth for what comes after. It's a GREAT show!

It is indeed brilliant. Enjoy! :)

It might reassure you to know that Reid is based on a real historical figure who lived until 1917, although they have changed a lot of his background. Which is a shame because the real Edmund Reid sounds larger than life. Along with his career in policing he was also a balloonist and made one of the first parachute jumps from 1000 feet.

reply

I had no idea he was based on a historical figure. How cool is that? I need to google him.

I don't know why that other guy thinks that Reid isn't in the show after the third season, but he is wrong. Reid is in every episode. The last episode of the third season could have served as a series finale, but amazon renewed the show for two more seasons. Season 4 has started a few weeks ago and I expect season 5 to start in january 2017.

I'm a girl. :) But I thought he was not in it due to a misleading quote in a spoiler way back when I was watching earlier parts. And he wasn't in any promo pics. I'm in the U.S. so it's hard to get accurate news at times. I am gad I was wrong.

Haha. I thought you were female based on your profile picture and it appears I was right. I was referring to merej. He made it sound like Reid was only in the first three seasons, but he is in every episode in season 4 and I expect he will be in every episode in season 5. He is the main character of the show after all.

It is true that Reid leaves in the season three finale, but he returns in the season 4 premiere. I think the season 3 finale was supposed to be the series finale, but amazon decided to renew the show for two more seasons. I thought the season 3 finale was amazing. The final scene is perfect and it would have made a great series finale. However, I'm glad that the show was renewed. More Ripper Street is Always a good thing. I don't think they can ever make a series finale that is better than the third season finale. That finale was the perfect ending. It was a happy ending for most of the main characters. It all goes downhill very fast for the main characters in season 4. Some with fatal endings.

reply

I never said he wasn't going to be in season 4. Pointing out that he would be in season 4, however, would have spoilered some of season 3.

That's me - considerate to a fault. 😀

After all is said and done, a lot more will have been said than done.

I thought that maybe you hadn't seen the season 4 premiere and you thought that Reid left the show. Based on the season three finale you could have been right, but luckily he returns in the premiere.

reply

I haven't seen any of season 4 yet but I have come across a trailer and some spoilers. And when I say 'come across' I mean searched the interwebz with a very fine-toothed comb then throttled it until it divulged its secrets 😀

In fairness if this was a lesser show I'd have been happy if it had ended with the season 3 finale. They wrapped it all up so beautifully in that one. As it is I am looking forward to watching seasons 4 and 5 on DVD - about 2 years after everybody else has seen it, apparently.

Is there no way to watch it in the US? You can't watch it via amazon prime?

reply

I'm in Germany, not the US. The actual problem is my wonky internet connection. I want to sit back and enjoy the show but with my connection I more often sit back and watch the 'loading' circle thingy rotate on the screen 😠

That really sucks!

reply

The good thing is that once I got the dvds I can binge watch it all in one go!

reply

That's true. I prefer binge watching whole seasons instead of having to wait a week per episode.

reply

Not going to say more as that might spoiler it for you.:)

There was a clue here, but not to worry, you go ahead and spoil the ending of season 3 for her.

reply

Why are you replying to my post? I didn't even write that. I told her what she wanted to know. She was afraid Reid wasn't in all the episodes.

reply

I on the otherhand am new to the show and find the worst actor is the dude who plays Reid. SO if he is gone..fine by me.

what Jordie?
