Where has Artherton gone? And Abberline, have I missed something?!

Its like i missed episodes between season 1 and 2.

What happened to Mrs Reid? Someone said she was rending in the street? What's that mean?

I think Amanda Hale had signed up for The White Queen and wasn't available.

Reid had a fling with Miss Goran (totally out of character) in the first series and Mrs Reid had turned to the church to help her with her grief over Mathilda. They couldn't reconcile their opposing beliefs about Mathilda's fate as Mrs Reid was convinced she was dead. Then, we don't see her again! There's just some mumbling about her rending her clothes in the street and being carted off to die in an asylum, never knowing that her daughter was alive!

Drummond replaced Atherton. It wasn't officially announced, but like any job people move on. Mrs. Reid left hubbie because of his infidelity, & Matilda being "dead" after he gave her hope of being alive. Rending means tearing apart with violence. Since she was in the street, drunk, it could mean tearing herself away from higher society. Or walking around drunk & causing a scene. Abberline retired when Reid was still there. He came back very briefly to help. If I were him, I would have retired far far away.
