S4 dreariness

I have started to watch season four, and I have to admit that I am getting extremely tired of the unrelenting dreariness of this series. There is not one likable character left, and we have to sit and watch everyone struggle with their inner demons. On top of this, it seems clear that the BBC is trying to inject some politically correct nonsense into this Victorian series.

Drake
Rose
Matilda
Reed
Are all likable to some degree.

Episode 2 has some of the most incredible acting performances that I have seen. As for the dreariness, pay close attention to the scene between Drake and Reed in Reed's home where he answers Drake's question about why he came back to Whitechapel. This episode also showcases Reed's superior detecting skills - almost Sherlock Holmsian in how he notices and deduces a whole story friom cuts on someone's palms. Truly back with a vengeance.

Two episodes in, & I am already thinking this is the best so far out of all of them. I agree with the other poster about Reed's skills. Love the part with him in the cell with the guy deducing he shucked oysters.

S4 is a ripping good time.

It would have been nice if they could manage to hang the Union Jack up the right way though!

Have to agree with the pc nonsense. It is so forced. The bad and always agressive white dock workers. The honorable and brave muslim...etc. These things are not a problem for itself if they fit into a believable narrative but here you can feel how the writers had to first fullfill their agenda and then think about the plot.

I watched S1 to S3 but had to stop in S04E01 because it felt the series lost much with this focus on agenda plot writing.

Not creative at all and cheap delivering to peoples sjw prejudices.

You stopped watching after the first epsisode and then you have the nerve about complaining about the title of my thread? You're not even a fan! You're clearly a racist idiot! You disgust me!

reply

I stopped for some time and have now finished the series. And yes I am not a fan. I like Ripper Street thats enough.

Glad they did not focus on pc cases in the later episodes. But the start of S4 was bad and felt forced to cater to the sjw police.

reply

That's not enough. You shouldn't even be on this board. Go away. Go bother someone else with your racist nonsense.
