What was the point of the Homosexual dude from House of Cards?

The actor that played Kevin Spacey's homosexual lover in House of Cards made an appearance in a few episodes in Rectify's final season. He was courting Amantha, popped up here and there, but they never developed their relationship. Just wondering why this character was written into the final series, as he didn't really serve a purpose

thier relationship developed, he was over for the celebration dinner,
melvin helped pack, he didn't come

they just didn't have enough time for him, and if there was more amantha/billy there would have been less daniel time(with the unintended benefit of having less chloe

It wasn't fully developed, that's true.

I saw the Inside the episode 4.06 and there was a party were Amantha and Billy went together, but it was cut from the final edit of the episode. I guess we'll have it on the DVD.

The show could have been renewed for a couple of seasons more, so that all these storylines/subplots weren't introduced in such a rush. It would have been much better.

Really?! I was wondering about that party, seems like something they would have shown. I kept thinking the show needed to show more Billy/Amantha scenes to give us an idea of how solid their union really was. When she and Jenny mentioned the party, I thought that seemed like something that warranted a scene, given the implications for Amanthat's character (laying down roots, reconnecting with the community, etc.) I am looking forward to seeing that scene somewhere down the line.

Daniel dreaming Amantha "settling down".

I guess we'll get the whole scene on DVD.

In the "Inside the episode" featurette:

* A woman is shown welcoming Amantha and Billy to the party. Later, it's shown Billy saying "It's not a bad life here in Paulie" and Amantha answers "That's what I saw today".

* Abigail Spencer explains: "Amatha goes to this party with her dukes up, but she's realizing that all the people she branded as evil kind of been living their lives and haven't really been thinking about her at all. I think there's like a thread of peace for Amantha at the end of 406".

He was there to show Amantha moving on to a life of her own. She spent all of her teen years and much of her young adulthood on Daniel. Now she needs Amantha time. Also to show she will stay in Paulie. Her story continues there.

its a full circle, an attempt to rectify the messed up parts of all their lives,
