I can't stand that Damn mom
Everything about her drives me nuts... Her voice... Her face... Her lips... Her awful attitude... Oh and her horrible acting
shareEverything about her drives me nuts... Her voice... Her face... Her lips... Her awful attitude... Oh and her horrible acting
shareOh please. No better, no worse, than Sally Field in Steel Magnolias.
Just fine for a middle-aged southern woman with a child in trouble.
If the character hadn't been played well, their attitude is unlikely to have provoked you to the degree it did.
The actress' work is actually quite effective. One of the best ways to tell good acting is to take a close look at what the actress is doing while not speaking. How they're reacting, moment to moment. Scenes don't happen in a vacuum; they depend on energy contributed by all the actors. Other performances benefit. This actress is never idle; she's committed. Her body language, her eye movement, her facial expressions, are all expressive. Beat by emotional beat she makes clear her character's emotional responses, and implies her thoughts - her attitude.
I would also add that when people don't like a character they will frequently attack the actor.

Remember this one?
"The incredible, edible egg,"
Eggs are so Freudian. I love them!
Im not sure if she was acting. Ive seen a few interviews with her and she seem to be exactly the same in real life. Not sure if thats good or bad.
shareSo, her reactions to questions in an interview are exactly the same as, for example, her reactions to conflict with her husband Ted in Pineapples in Paris? Exactly the same as her reaction to Daniel's release in the pilot? Exactly the same as her reaction to discovering Jared selling family items? Exactly the same as her reaction to Daniel being put into a coma? Etc.

You`re making it complicated. Her personality seem to be pretty close to Janet.
Compare with Daniel for example, obviously he is not the same in interviews.

Hopefully shes not that crazy.
When it comes to acting, its like they told her "don`t worry, just be yourself, you`ll be fine!".

To be uncertain to the point of being unsure if she was acting, you needed make it simplistic.
What you witness in an interview is personality, not character.
This difference is of huge relevance to understanding acting. So for example, an actress in an interview may seem to share similar personality traits as her character, but this does not imply that she wasn't constantly acting as that character.
The actress J. Smith-Cameron may share similar broad personality traits with Janet Holden as conceived by Ray McKinnon. That is part of casting. Yet Smith-Cameron may also possess a radically different character from that of Janet Holden. Which is where the acting comes in, in every moment of every scene. Which is another part of casting.

J. Smith-Cameron sure dresses better than Janet.
And sign_in - the egg scene was brilliant. You do know what eggs represent when a man is in possession of the, don't you?
