Twin Peaks

i don't know how many of you are old enough to remember this series
i certainly wasn't being 1 years old when it aired

but that doesn't stop an inquisitive, explorative mafaka like me,

for those not in the know, David Lynch, the surreal masterpiece director was offered a chance to write a pilot for ABC, or was it CBS, him and writer Mark Frost put together an amazing series, the first season only had 8 episodes if you include the finale of that season which blows all minds

then season 2 twas a bit forced because of network hands at play, before auteur television was created, they forced an ending mid way through that season and played out a further darker more sinister path, that ended with an almost devastating cliff hanger

this cliff hanger would have been devastating if not for the fact in 2014 david lynch was in negotiations with showtime to revive the series, in 2015 he dropped out citing creative differences, then came the out-crying of fans and previous cast members, and showtime bowed to their knees and opened their mouth to...

instead of 9 episodes, lynch signed on top 18 episodes, one of the conditions was that it must be shot on film, another condition is to avoid network interference and tell the story he wanted to tell,

if you have showtime on demand they just released all the episodes to binge in preparation for season 3, if not and live in Canada you might be able to find the episodes on crave tv, the "bell Canada" version of Netflix,

i implore you to watch these series for several reasons
1. i wannna debate the living *beep* out of your guys when the episodes begin 2 air
2. if it wasn't for twin peaks foundation that was laid by twin peaks, david chase (the sopranos creator) has stated he couldn't have made sopranos without twin peaks
3. without sopranos the golden age of television didn't really have legs to stand on, this was before six feet under had debuted, years before mad men or breaking bad, or even the wire
4.without these previous shows we would have never had rectify, rectify is the gold of the golden age of cable, and especially the first season rectify heavily borrows from its predecessor, (small town politics, some surrealism, beautiful scenery, wonderful narrative)
5. the show is amazing, and in the final episode one character says to another character "i will see you in 25 years" during the finale episode, may 2017 will be 26 years, a little off, but close enough
6. the owls are not what they seem

my fellow rectiardies, while we stay fluffy, let us enjoy the bizare surreal work of David Lynch, and appreciate that without this show, rectify wouldn't have been possible,

i will also refer you to the 2017 revival (season three , don't call this a comeback its been here for years
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_Peaks_(2017_TV_series)#Cast

217 names some old some new, some familiar, some not,
i can't say much more because i want you guys( and ladies) to experience the wonder for yourself if you haven't already, just heed my advice, i loved rectify so much i must obviously have a good opinion(jokes),

btw it might feel cliched and hokey, but it was 1990,( i wasn't even one years old when it debuted) it has some soapy qualities, but those are parody elements to remove from the dark depravity of the show, and when you hit the final episode you will be urging the for darker, bloody continuation that is to come

i leave you with two sentiments of advice 1) stay fluffy
2) watch this dream sequence, and remember 1990, not 2016, the video is only six minutes, you can spare six minutes, if not, slow down and smell the fing flowers and be lucky you have a sense of smell unlike me

that sadly took 45 minutes to write,

on the upside, i write faster the GRRM,

the gibberish sounding speaking, is them phonetically speaking the words backwards, and put in reverse,

love you guys, i think you open minded people will love this show once you get into that, although expect a lil misogyny, it was 1990, that rhymed,

reply

Oooh yes! Definitely gonna watch the revival! Love, love Twin Peaks. I'm a big Lynch fan in general. Weirdly enough, Blue Velvet is the one project of his that I can't stand. Although I don't guarantee that I'll be able to discuss it with you straight away because, as you're well aware, I have access issues down here in kangaroo land...

Misogyny? What misogyny? There was a nay a blip on my feminist radar and it's rather a sensitive one...Sure, there are violent abusers of women among the characters, but I'm pretty sure we're suppose to loathe them.

reply

How I do miss the log lady!

reply

unfortunately, she died october 2015, but still managed to film scenes for the revival,

shame the same couldn't be said about bowie,

reply

Just started season 2

reply

the owls are no what the seem,
i watched episode 7 of season 2 today, maybe my fifth rewatch,
hehehe i wonder if you will guess the killer

reply

Oh it isn't the butler in the kitchen with the candle stick ??

reply

yup..i watched it then as a 16 year old..and I have watched it multiple times since. It is my standout favourite tv show, and pure class. I am in two minds about the new season...but..the cast is so diverse and interesting that I can only assume it is going to be great.

reply

you'r dead frank:(

May 21st it is happening again
it begins with a 2 hour premier,
followed by weekly hourly episodes for a total of 18 episodes, it was shot with a closed ending, from what is described as an 18 hour movie script

"[The film is] the story of Laura's last seven days, very much important to this."

so make sure you have watched the movie

Today on the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Showtime president David Nevins said, “I think this is the pure heroin version of David Lynch and I’m excited to put it out.”

so lost highway, meets eraser head, meets blue velvet, set in twin peaks land, with blue puzzle box's and technicolour lesbian scenes, set in the town of twin peaks,
This aint gunna be your granpa's twin peaks

The young 'uns in my family are discovering all these great series from my own young adulthood - Twin Peaks, The X Files, etc.

According to one of the teens, "Mulder is hot!"

Yep - then, and now. I explained to said teen that yes, one can be a working actor and be a doctoral candidate. Robert Vaughn completed his (had no idea until I read his obit that he had a PhD in Communications from USC). Duchovny left just shy of his dissertation.

We will watch the recent X-Files mini-series of last year together, since I haven't yet seen it. We will watch the new Twin Peaks together.

Family hour, and all that jazz.

reply

LOL, Duchovny is coming back for season 3, Denise bryson, i wonder if he/she has had his/her surgery

the new X-files was good, some strong stand out episodes, it better come back with more especially now that terrible Aquarius show is cancelled,
they faked me out so bad with the episode entitled "home again" i thought it meant they were doing a sequel to the infamous peacock family episode,

when i was young, i guess 9 , i wanted to watch the X-files, and my parents checked it out, and it just so happened it was the night the infamous peacock family episode aired and they deemed the show not appropiate for me, i did the math from the release date, and yeah i was 7 not 9, and since they didn't reair that episode for awhile i got totally screwed, if it had been something like tiger tiger, the episode with alex trebeck i probably would have been fine,

ironically every time i would flip on the X-files late at night like a decade ago,
EVERY SINGLE TIME it would be the Peacock family,
and i want a goddamn sequel,

reply

2018 aparently for season 11 of xfiles, i imagine it will be shorter like this one,
i really think they should move it to FX, which is where the show would have landed if it was made today, let loose the big guns
fox already made that crappy exorcist show, lol why would you adapt horror for FOX when FX is right there,

Gillian Anderson will be staring as the god of i think Media, in Bryan Fuller's(hannibal) adaptation of Gaiman's "American Gods" on starz, so i imagine she will be busy, now that is a woman who ages in reverse, god damn

reply

Duchovny left just shy of his dissertation.

Shoulda kept going. The acting world wouldn't have missed much. I spent most of the X-files grinding my teeth at how freaking awful an actor he is. I never got used to it - he was just insufferably blank and smug. And that potato-face doesn't help matters 

As for Gillian, she has truly pulled off the TV comeback of the century after laying low for over a decade.

reply

Loved her in Bleak House. A character whose circumstances I would wish on no-one.

reply

What a fantastic adaptation, that was! I think Dickens would have loved it.

reply

he wasn't that bad in the x-files,
but he was amazing in twin peaks, for the few episodes he is in,
californication is just him playing his "sex addict"(no such thing, no matter what you read on the internet,) self, and was way to self indulgent
Aquarius could have been better

he does seem to play himself alot, or at least play mulder alot, but i think that is often what the producers want,

reply

but i think that is often what the producers want,

Code word for: we know he can't do anything else, so we'll use him for this 1 thing over and over. He was extremely lucky to get cast against Gillian who did all the heavy dramatic lifting, and he just latched onto their chemistry. She had to carry the show for both of them.

Oh, he's good at some of the comedy. He was indeed a scream as Denise!

reply

i wouldn't even say the Denise role is comical, maybe the premise, but the way he played Denise showed some versatility in his acting, i was convinced at his love for wearing woman's clothes, and feeling different after the undercover operation where he first started his transvestism ,

and then when he fliped back around and goes dressed as a male to play the role of the drug supplier, he went from Lady-like to sauve, but i guess that plays into a camp sort of a humor that is more british then american, certainly a progressive role treated with alot of respect for the fact that it was 26 years ago
while monty python have been dressing as women in an albeit more absurdist way, without being ridiculed for it,

i also think his character on the x-files was best when they would go for the more comedic jose chug from outer space, or those tyoes of episodes,

although gillian did carry the show, she was initially the foil/scientific skeptic to his dry parinoid persona, maybe i am just have tunnel vision and am blinded by bias,
