Binge watching now at Seas 4 ep 4

And i think the show is highly overrated with so many inconsistencies. In episode 4 Daniel feels its wrong to eat the gellato but he had no problem going with Trey inside George's house when he wasn't there and eating his drugs and drinking his booze.Somehow he didn't feel danger then ,huh ?

Back when him and trey went to the Georges trailer, he hadn't plead guilty again, he was not on parole, he was home free,
he thought that trey found the door unlocked, when it turned out trey had taken the keys from Georges dead body,

He didn't go ahead and take anything from george trey used "peer pressure" with him Trey saying george would not mind, Daniel is naive socially at this point, and doesn't realize that Trey was trying to frame him.
in that timeline he hadn't been out more then a few weeks, and was still recovering from a near death experience aswell.

also being around chloe, a blonde free spirited girl, might have reminded him of Hannah who he doesn't know, has no memory of killing hannah if he did,

this scene is taking place 6-7 months after daniels release, while he is on probation, one small infraction and he could be back in jail, as he explains when he first got out everything was new and exciting and now he just feels danger around him

Daniel was sent to jail when he was 18, never expecting to get out again,
all his social skills were practiced through the vents, and he was raped repeatedly,

Season 1 is infancy, season 2 is childhood and mid adolescence, season 3 in teenage/young adult, and season 4 is essentially going off to college

when you are young you feel invincible, but as you mature you sense the danger around you more imminently, ignorance is bliss because once your blissful ignorance is lost you are open to that big black black biting reality that is real life,

Daniel is in crisis, he is a severely broken individual, in the process of healing, now with the ever possible chance at going to jail for doing one thing wrong,
as well as the past consequences of his actions since release, IE, him being forced to take the plea because of his coffee cracking assault on Teddy and the rift that caused in the Holden/talbot household

Daniel is also extremely impulsive, which is one of the symptoms of PTSD,

As for the show being overrated, that wasn't nearly one of the best episodes, and that gelato scene was particularly grueling for those of us who either didn't like Chloe, or felt she was a misstep

but depending on how fast and hard you are binging you might not be giving yourself enough time to digest the episodes.
if find rectify is like a fine craft beer rather then malt liqour
better to be sipped like an 8.4 percent imperial ale, then to be chugged like a 6% 40ozer
Savor the slow burn, don't rush it, rushing it the time jump from the first episode to treys trailer, and then treys trailer to the gelato episode, is much much greater this side of the the trailer, and that time dilation can be disorienting at time times, especially when you realize how much the actor playing jared has grown in what is supposed to be 6-8 months,

Thanks for explaining it so well ,i guess i missed the part where "when he first got out everything was new and exciting and now he just feels danger around him " . Yeah,it definitely is a very fine show but i wouldn't put it in the category of must see tv like Westworld,GOT and now Taboo

I actually wrote this while watching the gellato scene. But you're right about those two instances as well but those can be explained ,in the case of the sis in-law she was the first woman other than his mom and sis whom he encountered and who had deep empathy for him and in the case of coffee cracking his step brother he asked for it by his taunts and it's reasonable to assume Daniel imbibed some lessons from his time in prison
