So if he says he can't live in this world..

How the hell is he comfortable around women? Major plot hole.

Chloes character is forced and dreadful as well

reply

A couple of things. You don't understand what a plot hole actually is, and you've confused character complexity with one.

Okay Martin Scorsese.... You're an Internet *beep*

Daniel was very awkward with Tawney at times although it because she herself was awkward. He was still awkward with Chloe at times.

But yes Chloe was very forced and doesn't fit Daniel's character or the show in general.

reply

He's also not particularly comfortable around his own sister and/or mother.

right....

I don't know that we ever saw Daniel completely comfortable with anyone, man or woman, until perhaps that final sequence of the finale.

reply

Daniel stopped working for me as a consistently believable character some time ago. I don't pay a lot of attention to what comes out of his mouth, to be honest, but it sounds like something he would say to bolster his Sensitive Snowflake Standing. This only brings up another character problem which I won't go into at this time since my flame-suit is at the cleaners.

Me, too.

Could it be because it all sounds "written"?

reply

I think what Daniel says is definitely believable. It's the responses from other characters which makes it sound "written" to me. Like when Chloe and Avery just go with anything he's saying and are able to respond in a really writerly way.

reply

I think it all sounds like someone who thinks and speaks with unusual deliberation. And like someone along the autism spectrum. And like someone like that who'd been subjected to extreme isolation and psychological torment for decades.

he was a rape victim who suffers from ptsd?
he didn't kick treys ass, they scuffled a little which was brought on by trey egging him on

hes a melted snowflake ass-raped literally and figuratively by the system

he is a survivor, but he has suffered more then anyone on the show, why not understand the empathy for the character:P
instead of just exaggerating the negatives

reply

why not understand the empathy for the character

Some people have little to no access to empathy. The capacity is impaired or missing entirely. It's consistent with this limitation to rationalize the inability to put themselves in another's shoes as a problem external to themselves.

Ludicrous and mean-spirited, thanks for making it personal. I have no shortage of empathy for real people AND fictional characters. I had empathy for Daniel and even Teddy. But I had more empathy for Karl Childers in Sling Blade who admittedly sliced up his mother and two others than I did for Daniel after a while.

I think the reason is it tried too hard or the agenda became too apparent. However, it says something that even without the main character being realistic I could enjoy the show so much.

Whoa. I was responding to Fluffy's question, and he didn't direct it at you.
