I agree the show is done. There are no petitions or outcrying that can stop the axe from falling.
This is unforunately the lowest-rated sitcom on television. Whats worse, its on ABC, which is heavily, heavily invested in its very successful sitcom line-up (Modern Family, The Middle, etc) and The Neighbors is the proverbial red-headed stepchild. The fact that its teamed up with one of Friday's top-rated shows (Shark Tank) and still can't build an audience kills it.
But I like this show. Its hit-or-miss, yes, but its a fun little family show and I like it.
I watch this block of shows with my fiance and her daughter (5) from a previous relationship. Me, my girl and the kid laugh at The Neighbors. We get some of the more mature jokes that fly over her head and the little girl laughs at the rest. Her favorites are Dick, with Jackie and Larry second.
The MOMENT Shark Tank comes on, she is - understandably - bored to tears, and thats when she goes to the floor to play with her toys.
I wonder how The Neighbors would have fared if ABC made the ballsy move and put The Neighbors in its big sitcom block on Wednesday. I think it would fit better than Super Fun Night and The Neighbors, even at its weakest, is funnier than Back In The Game, imo.
I would think that teaming it up with Shark Tank would be a no brainer way of killing it. Totally different demographic. This COULD have been the 3rd Rock of its time... it had the potential in September of 2012, but apparently ABC didn't want it enough to develop it to be.
Another funny installment. To say that the ep wasn't as good as last week doesn't mean that it was too far off. It wasn't.
If they can keep it at this level, that's a good way to go out.
However, Marty's parents (especially Keach) were very funny, but Jackie's parents - hardly at all. Both sets of parents should have been held over for the "to be continued ...", if they are going to continue that storyline.
Jackie's parents were an inside joke, at least for me. Both Meridith Baxter & Reginald VelJohnson are both gay.
The part that bothered me was Marty resorting to being 12 years old, having him that upset over his parent's divorce. Then whining about what is going to his bedroom. I would have liked somebody to tell him "Marty grow a pair"
Do they eat food or not? Reggie got sick tasting a milkshake. But the were all sitting down for the Thanksgiving meal?
I think the best joke of the series was the Challoweenukah episode with Jackie making a dreidel out of a pumpkin and then moaning that it wouldn't spin.
