I'm ready to say goodbye

Just now, I checked my DVR to be sure the Neighbors would be recorded, and found out it was moved to Saturday afternoon at 2:00! I live in Chicago, by the way. Neighbors was moved to the Saturday afternoon slot to make way for a debate.

I suppose it's better than not showing it at all this week, but the fact that it was moved to a death slot even more fatal than Friday night makes me resign myself to the possibility this once wonderful series may be cancelled. If I'm wrong and this bounces back somehow, that'll be great, and I'll look forward to a third season if there is one, but if there's not, then...okay - it had its shot and I've enjoyed it. Even the (meh) episodes were okay because of the cast.

I believe it was on last nite (not sure when though...way to bury the show...sigh) because my wife just watched it on Comcast on demand... however I noticed too last nite there was a debate then got up this am and she was watching it on on demand...Entertainment weekly also offers a synopsis of next week's show and they list it as Friday.

Veggie and Jimmy, I spoke too soon - I watched it this afternoon, it was on at 2:00 today (Chicago time). It was laugh out loud hilarious. It was so season one - no Jane, no Reggie-loves-Amber. Plus, the sight gags, the banter - ALL THERE! I was Laughing so loud I didn't even notice it went to commercial after the first act.

I wonder when they showed the latest episode in IL though, because that debate was on and I didn't see it on the schedule.

reply

It was on a2:00 Saturday in Chicago, at least. I'm not sure about the rest of the state.

It was on Friday night at 8:30pm here. Right before Shark Tank and immediately after that dreadful Tim Allen show.

Right now -- the only real chance The Neighbors has of getting another season relies on how ABC reacts to its other failures. ABC has cancelled a lot of new shows this season. Probably more than any other network.

I think The Neighbors will be on the short list with Super Fun Night and Trophy Wife to see which sitcom survives. And I think, for as hit-and-miss as it is sometimes, The Neighbors is much better than those two.

I never even knew Trophy Wife was still on, and I forgot it existed.

I tried watching Stupid Fat Nutjob, only because of a Brooke Shields guest appearance - not even she could save the episode. Thankfully it was On Demand, so I could pause it when I started to get irritated, then go back to it - I've always liked Brooke, and I wanted to stick it out for her. NOT WORTH IT!

Gobble Swillson and those other two nerdettes are the most sickening people on the planet - oh, please, God, please DO NOT let ABC cancel the Neighbors. ABC doesn't know what it has!

I also watched it at 2pm in the Chicago area on Saturday. With weather 20 degrees below normal, it was a nice indoor diversion.
It will be back to Friday night this week.

It will be back to Friday night this week.

That's good - the last few Fridays just weren't the same without the Weavers-Bird-Kerseys. Here's hoping this Friday's episode is just as riotous as (if not more than) "Saturday"'s episode.

That felt weird - it being on Saturday - only cartoons, bad civic talk shows and American Bandstand ever aired new segments on daytime Saturdays.

There have been some shows in my market (not The Neighbors, but other shows, generally sitcoms) that have been preempted by sports or local events. For whatever reason, those shows end up being aired at something like "2:37 AM"- ie the middle of the night and not even on an even half hour. If it weren't for my DVR that schedules by name, I'd never have known to record them.

reply

Same here - cable bills are a rip-off but the DVR is worth it.

It was on at it's regular time in my small town....8:30 Friday night. And loved Balle Balle....

I did, too - I just finished watching it for the second time.
