Then I take it you have not fired any shot guns . . .
I own three shotguns. I am a gun enthusiast. I have a good collection of firearms and I have used a very extensive range of firearms over many years.
Newton's third law. - every force has an opposite equal reaction.
By your limited understanding I should be thrown back several feet firing my shotgun.

Well sir, I only own 2 shotguns myself (though I am a gun enthusiast, and have also used a wide variety if firearms over the years, from a Vietnam era M-16, a Thompson-- only had the luxury of shooting a stick clip and not a drum--, full auto shotguns, AK-47s, etc.).
However, citing Netwon's 3rd law in relation to ballistics isn't completely accurate as human tissue/body mass cannot repel firepower but merely absorb, deflect, or succumb to the velocity of bullets or slugs. Seriously though, as a shooter and shotgun owner, haven't you ever shot something with some deer slug or solid slugs? That stuff will wreak havoc on living tissue- letting that stuff fly just on fruits or other organics destroys them!

According to Winchester, a blast from a 12-guage shotgun leaves the barrel with over 3000 ft/lbs of energy. Sounds like it could knock a 200 lb man a good distance to me.
