'Hurricane Sandy destroyed my comic books.'

Wah. It also destroyed people's lives and livelihoods, took their homes or their irreplaceable belongings or their cherished pets. Lamenting your lost comic book collection just seems like entitled whining.

Sandy also destroyed that guy's house too. He didn't ask anyone to buy him a new collection. His friends got him something cool to get him on the road to rebuild his collection. Lots of people would be distraught at losing a collection of anything that nearly 40 years to amass. People doing something nice for their friend rubs you the wrong way I guess.

reply

Well said. I really don't understand the ,"your situation wasn't as bad as other folks so your loss is invalid" crowd.

reply

Walt had damage to his house too, knowing a little about him I'm not surprised they didn't bring it up on the show. It's Comic Book Men , not the news. I didn't get a 'this is the most important problem from Sandy' vibe.

reply

Walt never said anything about his loss being above anyone else's loss.

He was in the eye of the storm, he either lost his home or major damage was done.

Too many whining trolls on IMDB.

So he's not allowed to bring it up? I agree with everyone else, all this *beep* about not being able to complain because your family wasn't killed and house wasn't leveled crap needs to end.

They wanted to do something nice for him and you're just jealous. End of story.

reply

They could have chronicled the destruction to their houses, but this is a show about comic books and collectibles, not a home improvement show.

reply

Precisely.

I have an unbelievably long ignore list.

I suggest anyone criticisizing Mike and the boys listen to the podcast 'I sell comics' (episode 54) which was recorded days after Sandy struck. You will find that Mike is very philosophical about the situation and never once complains about the loss of his collection. He is simply grateful that no-one in his family was hurt and accepted that many people suffered a lot worse than he did. He wasn't asking for anything other than hoping his house wasn't going to be condemned.

The stash guys simply wanted to organise a kindly gesture for a good friend. Anyone that can be negative about that kind of thoughfulness and friendship must live a pretty sad and jealous life.

reply

Exactly.

reply

There is a movie out called "The Book Thief".

If you watch that movie, you will understand.

reply

He didn't ask anyone for anything. They just did that for him.

Way to take a kind gesture and turn it into your own personal political ax to grind.

How can you go on a message board and complain when millions were killed in Nazi Germnany....

You hate Congress but every election you re-elect YOUR "guy" and wonder why things never change!
