Walt is a lousy haggler.

Walt: How about 60 bucks?
Seller: How about 80 bucks?
Walt: Okay, I can do 75 bucks (instead of splitting the difference and offering 70 bucks).

I realize it's only five dollars, but if this mentality is employed in big-ticket negotiations, the store could lose a lot of money.

It's because he knows he's low balling them so much, he doesn't want to lose a sale.

I've only watched the last 2 episodes of this show, and the cashier, Walt, he seems like a real douchebag, I don't really like his attitude and how he treats his guests on this show.

Let me tell you something. Walt is the only sane man on the planet. It's like he is Taylor, and everyone else is an ape!

True that!

And it was really embarrassing when he wanted to charge Ms. Nichols for her action figure AND then when he was trying to haggle with her, it only got worse. I know Star Trek is not Walt's Big Thing, but it was a bit surprising that he had no idea who she was when she came in (and I know he really had a heads up in reality, seeing as she didn't just show up there outta the blue. I get that it's a produced segment, but it did seem odd that a guy in his position didn't know she was).

yes it's scripted....

It was embarrassing when Ms Nichols expected to get something for free from a guy doing business to support his family.

Not sure what you're talking about, most of the people who walk in there think they're sitting on a retirement. The "haggling" starts from the actual value, which is often less than 33% of what the seller was originally asking.

reply

I get tired of all the haggling, honestly. It just seems like it's there because it's part of the whole "Pawn Stars" breed of reality shows. I mean I understand when a customer wants to sell an item, they're going to negotiate, but it seems like no one buys anything without a haggling session either.
