After 4 Seasons...

We finally get Comic Book Men the way it was supposed to be, with Bry, Walt, and Q. It was good to see TESD the focal point.

AND Sunday Jeff!

I totally forgot Sunday Jeff. He continues to amaze on and off screen.

So weird to see Q on here after watching Impractical Jokers. I didn't realize he was involved with these guys. I recall him mentioning being involve in theater group in high school. Maybe that's how he got involved with them, he said he was running sound on TESD?

The premise about Impractical Jokers is about "four lifelong friends", so it makes me wonder if there's any truth to that, and if so, where the four of them fit in, and if the others knew Kevin Smith and his buddies also?

The moment Q got involved in Kevin Smith's world is preserved here, animated many years after the initial recording:

The story is, Q was just a fan posting on a message board. He posted about a store NOT carrying the accompanying 'Mallrats' book. Q was challenged to go cuss the store out for not carrying it. Q recorded the confrontation. Smith was so impressed, he gave Q a job working at the View Askew website office (IIRC). This where he met Ming and Bryan. I do not recall how Q met Walt.

Years and years later, Bryan started the TESD podcast as a sort of therapy for him to discuss stuff with Walt. Q was their sound engineer, but after a few pods, joined in as the 3rd member, and the format expanded to include more than just Bryan talking things out.

Thanks for posting that, Dalek_Fred, I'd never heard any of that.
Yikes, that sound quality was terrible though.

Mallrats was all right, the worst part about it was Jason Lee yelled all his lines. It did have Stan Lee's best film appearance though, IMO.

NP! What seems a bit weird to you (BQ slumming it with friends of Smith) is even weirder for those of us who were around at the beginning = the crazy fanboy that was a friend of a friend of Kevin Smith, who helped Bryan Johnson record a silly podcast from a comic book store is now a famous TV celebrity ... but *still* records the same silly podcast.

But the dynamic between these 3 guys is infectious! Do yourself the favor of listening to this pod. Kinda sums them up really nicely:

Love TESD and when one of them isn't there it shows, the 3 of them are great together,as for comic book men it looks doomed to me sadly

It's very true, there's been plenty of photo's, video's and knowledge going right back when they were at school featured on the show and their social media to back it up.
It's healthy for Q to have different groups of friends and not just sit at home with his cats haha.

I know I tried listening to a TESD podcast once, and it didn't interest me much, although that was quite awhile ago. When it comes to podcasts, it's a big help for me to be interested in the subject matter or topic, which is why I like to listen to Fatman on Batman, with its focus on geek culture.

It's not generally enough for me to simply enjoy the personalities of the people involved, they have to be talking about something I'm interested in. Walt's taste in comics doesn't mirror mine, and I'm not even sure what Bryan is into. He doesn't like comics, so I'm not even sure why he's on the show. Still, I might give TESD another chance when I have a spare moment, maybe while I'm lifting some weights or something.

So I did try listening to the most recent TESD podcast while I was shaving and showering today. It was interesting enough that I will listen again, although I am one of these people who don't understand why Bryan is famous. I know the Randall character was based on him. Walt runs the store, so I can see why he's on the show at least.

Part of the conversation was how much Q was paying in taxes, so he must be hauling in a lot of money.

don't understand why Bryan is famous.

Not sure he is, really. At least no more than any other reality show start is, and less then most of those. I think his appeal is just in his quick/dry humour, and twisted scenario creation, and the weird tangents his mind seems to take. Just an interesting dude to talk to. And Walt is there as the sharp voice of (near)normality that keeps him tethered to reality.
