Walt, the only unlikable person on the show....

It's been clear from the show's first season that Walt is an immense jerk. Cruel and rude to others, incapable of showing any emotion except greed or almost a lustful passion towards his own favorite comics. He's a loathsome person....buck-teeth and all.

I feel sorry for the others, having to put up with him.

And where's Brian Johnson on here? He used to post in this forum all the time.

Yeah, the way he terribly lowballs everyone who tries to sell their precious collectables...I know he's only doing his job, but he's obviously getting off just ripping off everyone & it's a disgusting sight to reatedly see! My friends & I have stopped watching the show just because of him!

reply

Well said.

It must really make his day to grease 5 more dollars out of someone, just to show how smart he is. The others, when shown negotiating, are not as spineless.

wild -- offering 50% of the ask (which is usually pretty close to the retail price) is a pretty standard bargaining tool -- I offer "Pawn Stars" as evidence.

And what people seem to forget -- stores have a lot of overhead, and there's no guarantee that the item will sell, or when. So 50% isn't necessarily a "lowball".

Yeah people tend to forget or not understand how much it costs to run even a small business with only a couple employees. Stores like that tend to not make a whole lot of profit on new merchandise and have to make it up in margins on used stuff or else go under.

reply

Exactly.

They can't offer close to what it would sell for on Ebay or elsewhere. They have to make a profit.

If somebody really wanted to get the most out of the item, they would go through the work and sell it themselves directly to a collector. By going to a store like this, you're asking somebody else to do the work for you to sell it to somebody who wants it. There is going to be a reasonable cost in doing that.

reply

You know, sometimes people don't get that much for items on eBay either.

reply

That's very true. I collect rare record albums, and I've seen some sellers demand three figure prices for some old records and other sellers sell their copies for a fraction of the price.

Guess which ones sell faster and which ones are still online.

I think people going in to the Stash sometimes confuse a price they see an item marked at as the price it will go for. There are times that's not the case at all.

movie -- Ming is definitely a candidate for "most unlikable". The way he criticizes some customers' taste in collectables is unkind and totally unprofessional. Termination-worthy, IMHO.

Lastly, I'm not a Walt hater, but he definitely has some rodent DNA in him.

Interesting thoughts on Ming. I haven't noticed too many jerk qualities in him but he's no saint. Mike Z. is probably the nicest guy on the show, with Bryan Johnson a kind of gentle giant.

Right on with Walt.

He's like the main man of the group as well

Walt is a scumbag so full of himself, he doesn't even try to look not like a greedy SOB and he knows he's on live tv! He makes the show unwatchable, I had to stop watching because of him.
