Possible spoilers and season 6 speculation

I just read that the creators have known how they want to end the series since season 2 and it hasn't changed. Now hearing Phillip and Elizabeth talk about returning to their motherland using a European vacation as a excuse, makes me think of the murdered family on the hotel room. Was that a foreshadowing momennt for them? Is that their demise and Paige will be the survivor?

reply

that would be a heartbreaking ending. i could see it happening though I hope it doesn't. I've always had a bad feeling about the hotel room family...

Back around season 2ish, I remember some threads where everyone speculated on what would be the fates of Philip and Elizabeth... They ranged all over the place, from one or both of them being killed, to their discovery by the FBI and arrest or escape, to their leaving the country without anyone the wiser.

Now that the final season is all that's left, I really can't say for certain if any of those scenarios jump out at me as definitive; I feel the show could conclude with any of them. The suspense of waiting almost a whole year to see how it all wraps up is going to be tough!

I agree, the final season should be awesome with any number of possibilitites.
I like to speculate, so I'm thinking Tuan hooks up with Paige, since Liz feels Tuan needs a partner.

Henry gets wind that his parents are Russian spies so not to be separated from his first love, Chris, he tells Stan. Stan goes to arrest Phil and Liz but gets jumped and killed by his new Russian girlfriend.

Liz still has Russian blood running through her, unlike Phil, so they get into an argument, and Phil kills her (Liz).

Oh yeah, Oleg fills a void left by Nina's death, runs to Martha who as we know, has a thing for Russian men.

How did I do?

Those are some very interesting possibilities you came up with there. The one about Paige becoming Tuan's partner is intriguing, but I don't think she is the type of agent Elizabeth had in mind when she told Tuan he needed someone to "help" him with the work. Paige has zero experience so I doubt that would happen. At the stage she's at now, she would be the one who still needs help doing the spy stuff.

The Henry scenario is a possibility. I think that all depends on whether P&E will tell Henry what their real identities are or wait until they're in Europe and ready to cross back into the USSR. I do agree, though, that I think there's more to Laurie Holden's character than what we know so far. I hope so anyway, she seems to have been integrated enough into the Stan storyline that there needs to be some kind of unmasking of her real motivations.

P killing E...wow, that's dark, dude. I know they both have disagreements sometimes about ideology and how "right" their mission really is, but I'd have to doubt the show would go down this dark road. I could definitely see them splitting up over the disagreement, with Philip staying in America (either with his cover intact or with immunity for turning) and Eliz going back home. That was actually the scenario I speculated would happen a few years back when the older discussion was going on.

reply

Actually, I don't think they will go down that dark road either but I'm starting to wonder if Philip will FORCE his kids to move to The mother land, although Paige would probably have no problem with that.

Btw, when I said Oleg would hook up with Martha, I said it with tongue in cheek, but you have to admit, that would make for a great conclusion for Martha. Oleg is a nice looking Russian man who Martha seems attracted to. Martha is a horny thing so while not the easiest on the eyes, when the lights are off, she may be more than what Oleg could handle. Lol

The Oleg sub-plot has me curious--the fact that it's occurring in Moscow--has me wondering if next season's plot will actually return the Jennings family (or at least some of them) back to the USSR. Up to now, Oleg has only been tangentially connected to them through Stan, but I'm starting to think his presence in the show is continuing because the story is going to bring him (and Gabriel, and maybe even Martha, too) into the lives of the Jennings when they reach Russia.

And by the way, I'm not the most sentimental person, but I actually had a bit of a tear in my eye during the scene where Martha was at the park and met the cute little girl she was likely going to adopt.

Also Philip's son and brother, there has to be some kind of a reunion there, since they spent some time with that story this season.

reply

Thanks for that reminder about them. I forgot about that sub-plot because it was dropped so suddenly after the son made it all the way to America then was told to turn around and go home. I sure hope they do something further and more significant with this.

One thing that is easily missed this season - Tuan works for the Vietnamese government, not Russian.

"I feel the show could conclude with any of them"

I feel the exact same way, and that's such a great thing to feel at this stage. Some shows feel so locked in, that before the final season starts, you can still see where they're going, at least in broad strokes. Any of these endings would feel fitting, really. Yeah, the wait will be rough.

Was thinking, would be cool if the show has a flash-forward to Paige being a spy with a family of her own, like her parents.
