San Andreas was filmed in Queensland, Australia, so while they were there the studio obviously wanted to get another A-lister in their film besides Dwayne Johnson. Hollywood always does this, when they go to another country to film a movie they try to get the most famous star from that particular country whether they're a professional actor or not. Singers can get away with being in a movie here and there because their music videos feature acting. But like some others said - Kylie was an actress first before she was a singer way back in the day in that Australian soap opera.
