Why wasn't Kyle Justin the sidekick?

Cooper was really unberable to follow during the movie, and really came out of nowhere, I think Kyle would make a good sidekick for the movie and his existence was already justified in the AVGN universe as the guy that lives behind his couch. Why not just go with that?

reply

It might have something to do with him having his own life and job and just can't spend months on end in LA. That's why Mike wasn't cast in it either.

reply

Agreed. Cooper is an absolute no life.

reply

The actor who played him was awful.

I believe it was an attempt to acquire an African American audience. I know that James Rolfe has a Black fan base, myself being one of them, it was probably just an attempt to broaden it.

I understand Kyle Justin and Mike Matei just couldn't commit to more than cameos, but that's still no excuse for for the awful Cooper character. The Irate Gamer would've been a better sidekick.

reply

I think that it was Motherfkcr Mike in the original draft.

It would have been funny using Matei as the scene where the general plays AVGN and everyone laughs is immidiatly followed by people checking out videos by his "producer". Just imagine that scene but instead of Super Rad Gamer Dude, we would have Matei's video about Elmo or Inspector Gadget, followed by the army guys reacting negatively to it.

I think they changed it because of April Rolfe, who (as I understand it) spoke out against Mike and spoke for having a black supporting character in a main role.

Why didn't she want Mike in the role? He would have been much better.

Do you have a source for this?

“When I split an infinitive, God damn it, I split it so it will stay split.” - Raymond Chandler

April Rolfe posted on Cinemassacre prior to the movie starting pre-production where she said that she was going to be a bigger voice in future productions. She complained that there was no diversity on Cinemassacre and called it a "White sausage fest".
So because of that, there are assumptions that the Nerd's sidekick being black and the addition of the female character came from April's role as an executive producer on the movie.

I don't know April personally but from what you're relaying it sounds like we're gonna be suffering another Yoko Ono/Courtney Love situation. Now instead of just doing whatever he wants with creativity we're gonna have phoned in characters and plots that are only there cause of the color of their skin or gender. Not for the sake of talent or relevance to the humor of AVGN, but purely just for the sake of diversity. Fantastic.

reply

When people complain that somebody's productions don't contain enough females or people of certain races, that in itself is racist/sexist. We should be to the point by now where that's not even something that you think about, and where people are just people.

reply

Not so much with minorities but with women there's any excuse to be the victim and to take over.
so many films have been ruined because of the need to force a 'strong' female character where one isn't needed Just so they won't be accused of being sexist and women can have an ego stroke when they see this pointless character treated the male leaf line he's an idiot and she's the real star.

Blame feminism mostly for this but men not standing up for themselves and their work is a huge problem too

reply

James and his friends should definitely apologize for having penises.

reply

Yeah, that's one of the biggest problems of the movie. James didn't utilize the cast of characters he created for his show much, if at all. Kyle Justin would have been much more liked and appreciated by fans as James'sidekick as he was already established in the show. This Cooper guy on the other hand, on top of being a completely out of the blue character, is also REALLY annoying.

reply

I think if Kyle or Mike would of been the main side kick, it would of been a lot more bearable to watch, it took me 5 goes to finally watch the whole film.

Even now after seeing it (just) if someone we already knew and liked would of turned up instead of the annoying Cooper I'd of been like right, here we go, these two are going on an adventure.

Poor casting, poor script, there was no emotional tug, I just didn't care, not even about the nerd.

I don't like being a grammar Nazi (esp. since English isn't my first language) but did you learn English in Pakistan?

It's "WOULD HAVE", not "WOULD OF".

Talk about poor script..

I agree the black dude didn't do much for me. The problem as many already said (sorry to be the broken record) being that nobody knew that guy, and unless if he was extremely well written and acted(wich was not the case) everybody was gonna not like him too much.

To the guy's defense, i saw much worst acting in much bigger budgets tough. But nothing really got out of this character.

Anybody would had been better as a nerd side kick, the youtube community is so huge he could had got anybody from channel awesome or other famous youtubers and people would had love it. Even if a dude like lets say JonTron (dunno if he was already on YT when the movie was made) did the role people would had probably loved it just because they could relate to the dude.

Hell if the EeeeeTeeee creature would had been a dude in a suit voiced by Mike Matei people would had probably prefer it lol

When you think AVGN, you think James of course, but also Mike, Kyle, *beep* Pickle, Mecha Deathchrist 2000, and other cameos he got. Lots of people got crazy at the end cameos... but thats the bigger problem.

Nostalgia Critics and the other dudes shouldn't had just cameos, but a bigger role, the thing is, maybe back when the movie was filmed they where not avalaible or on board. For exemple Loyd Kauffman, he made his AVGN episode much later than the filming of the movie. The movie took forever to come out, even James don't look the same anymore lol

In any case, i enjoyed the movie, sure it could had been better, but it was fun to see the AVGN on a bigger adventure. I saw it in theater, im actually really glad James managed to have it in montreal, but i really need to rewatch it tough. Been a while.

Alice is the worst character of all time, she need to die in the last movie. Chris/Jill are RE !!!

I think it would've felt more like an AVGN movie, but I think it would've been mistake to have another non-actor alongside James.

reply

I think it would have worked much better if it was Mike.
