Why all the complaints about the X-Box?

I've seen a number of posts on the various "PA" boards about this film's product placement of the X-Box.
Why is that so offensive to people? I didn't even get the sense that a product was being 'plugged' anyway, it was just a device that could be used as a possible 'supernatural' tool for the audience re Toby the demon.

If one wants to complain about product plugging in films, look no further than:
"Superman II" (biggest Coke sign ever, used in action scenes no less.)
"E.T" (All but put Reese's Pieces on the map forever)

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

I bought 17 Xboxes after watching this film. I blame anyone but myself

Haha. I was just thinking.."So that's why I bought all those xboxes"

It's not really product placement. They don't talk about how great it is. One of it's features just becomes a plot device. It wouldn't really come across if they had made up some fictional video game system with a peripheral exactly like a kinect and call it something else. Since we're meant to believe this movie takes place in the real world, it would totally pull the audience out of the movie.

I agree. That's one of the things that annoy me about the new CSI: Cyber. Fictional gaming systems and social media platforms created just so they don't appear to favour a real-world equivalent.
