One 'scare' I was expecting that thankfully didn't happen

As soon as I saw that fridge open, and how large it was, I was thinking, "Someone's going to open it, stand there for a minute, and when they close it either someone else is going to suddenly be there, or a ghost, or some other type of "scare"". And it didn't happen.

One cliche the movie didn't use.

I do no harm, I keep to myself; there's nothing wrong with my state of mental health.

same here, i was at the point where i KNEW it would happen.....as with you, glad i was wrong. thats one cliche thats used waaaay too often. i imagine they purposely framed it all that way knowing some would expect it.

Another scare that didn't happen:

When the mom was cutting with that knife while watching the cooking show, she left and the knife flew up to the ceiling.

When she returned looking for the knife, I thought it would fly down and either cut her hands/fingers or just drop on her head... I was cringing all that time.

I actually was waiting for that to happen too but see the scares that we do expect that don't come also add to the suspense and scariness of the movie. I see people commenting on these message boards saying there were only a few scary moments in each of the movies and what it tells me about these people is that they are the type looking for gore and not a real scare. They probably can't appreciate horror without violence not needed to be shown. They can't understand psychological thrillers either probably. Just my 2 cents.

Scary moments? What scary moments? I would love a good well done scare. I don't need blood or gore. We're bored of the same cliched tactics that this franchise has been using. You can have your 2 cents back. I don't think you understand horror all that well. Every movie seemingly follows the exact same formula of the first hour have doors opening or closing, some noises, and sometimes shadows. Then you get the remainder where somebody gets pulled up or down stairs, or flung in the air. And then the last 30 seconds, we get introduced to something different to wrap it up all pretty. Does that sound about right? Does any of that induce any sense of horror, or fright? If it does, that's great, but it's something that I would have enjoyed when I was 7 or 8. As a man in my 30's, this is utterly laughable. I love the Saw, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and all those torture and slasher flicks, but they aren't scary. It takes atmosphere and ambiance and a story that can get in your mind. The Paranormal Activity movies fail to do so.

Actually, it is ripped off. From whence cometh the rip off, you ask? Well, I'm glad you asked. The exact same thing was critically lauded in a little fillum called "The Ring".

On really romantic evenings of self, I go salsa dancing with my confusion

reply

Excuse me but... What are you talking about?

reply

At the beginning of The Ring when one of the girls kept going to the fridge, the frame was set up to look like something was going to appear behind the door when she closed it, but nothing ever popped up.

reply

I was counting down til that too lol they did at least avoid that one.

reply

After the girl had picked up the book falling down from the shelf I was waiting for it the third time to come flying straight into her face or stomach instead.

I agree 100%, OP.
I'm so glad they did not use that overused scare either!

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

reply

No doubt that was deliberate, and it worked!
